    Writing Help from the Youtube

Discussion in 'General Writing' started by Thom, Aug 25, 2017.

I've come across a couple of these and think they've really helped in reevaluating some of my writing.
The one I like the best are 'Writing Lessons.'

    Careful. Spoilers!

I like Ellen Brock. Short, bite sized nuggets from a novel editor. She is also pleasant and answers email. Right now she is wrapping up her Novel Writing Bootcamp series of videos.
I can say I really dislike when things aimed at fiction writers use movies as examples. They almost always (in my experience) talk about the movie, a visual medium, and not the novel. I tried to watch that Lord of the Rings one but got bored seeing clips of the movie mixed with The Matrix. In fact, I have no idea why those two would ever be put together. One is based on books, which are based on old tales/lore; while the other is an attempt at making a live action anime. I just want inormation, not entertainment.

I watch all the how-to-write videos. Sometimes I watch, not because I'm learning something new, but because it's nice to see like-minded people enthusiastic about the same thing as me. It's like making new friends. I keep visiting the ones I like, and I periodically search for new videographers using the filter feature, say, in the last month or week or day.
