Discussion in 'Writing Software and Hardware' started by Jesse Bassett, Jun 1, 2021.

Is there a good writing program for Linux for writing novels? Just curious....

I assume you mean something akin to Scrivener, not just a word processing program like Libre Office Writer?

Bibisco and Manuskript may be options.

Also consider Wavemaker Cards. It is a free/open-source browser based PWA application that is VERY complete. Works with any platform that has a Chrome based Web browser available, syncs project to Google Drive, so I can start work in Windows and finish in Linux or Android tablet (or vice versa).

I'm on Linux and just getting started out too. I was assuming that good ol Emacs with markdown would do the trick.

I'll probably check out specialized tools like Scrivener to see if they offer anything I can't do with Emacs

I've heard that ywriter can be made to work under linux. It's similar to Scrivener.

I like the very basic, no-distraction editors in linux. I've used Writemonkey and Typora. I do most everything in Typora lately, but I'm only writing shorts at the moment. I'd be curious to know if Smartedit Writer works under linux. You know, with Wine or something.

There is a an unofficial community version of Scrivener for Linux. If you go to the Literature and Latte forums you’ll see a sub forum where you can download it.
