I am a writer. A writer you say? My word man, what is it that you write? What? you ask, I write words man! Words you say? and what does one do with these words that you write? What to do with them? One reads them man. One reads my words. Reads them? you say. And what is the point of reading them? The point! The point! The point my dimwitted friend is that I have written them so they must be read! Are there any other writers who demand to be read? Why yes, millions of them. All of whom write to be read? Were you not bosom fed as a child! Yes! they write to be read. Forgive my stupidity my dear writer, but if there are millions of writers out there, all of whom have the same reasons for writing as you, meaning billions upon billions of words that demand to be read. And one can only read so much of the work of these millions of writers... Yes, yes get on with it man, spit it out. Then what makes your writing worth reading from all those others who think the same of their own work? SHAZAM! Hello all, Look forward to hanging out and sharing with you. Be well, WS
Hello Mr. Soul, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Hey Guys, Thanks for the warm welcome, mucho appreciationo (think I should brush up on my Spanish?) ;0) WS
haha, when you put it like that I guess it's best to just assume that you were meant to read all those great works that have came your way...as for the one's you've missed; there's still time while you're alive...and the one's that are bad...put them down, never let them cross your eyes again! There are just too many words Kerry
Welcome Wandering Soul; "Yet another fly heading towards the electric blue light" Thats eerily similar to a line I'm twisting into a vampire novel I'm working on. The heros notice that every time a mosquito lands on one of the creatures and starts to feed it falls off dead. Kind of like an organic bug zapper. One day it'll be at the checkout lanes in all the supermarkets...watch for it. islaismarla, everyone has to read the bad work too or they'l miss everything I've ever done!!!
Haha Now that's a warm welcome, careful I may just fall in love with you all ;0) Rod, I guess great minds think alike oh and no doubt about that, I'll be first in line at my nearest Tesco's. Be sure to give me a heads up! WS
