Child abuse, kidnapping, rape and pornography

By lessa · Jan 13, 2010 · ·
  1. I know a strange topic for a grandmother and children's writer.
But was on a site this morning and they showed pictures of a boy who had been tortured, raped and chained.
They were talking about what punishment was available and then went on to family kidnapping and what the system did. Not much in my mind.
One thing was posted about a petition that is going world wide for the implanting of gps devises into the children that way we can keep track of them.
Now I am all for protecting our children but to me this is just wrong.
for one thing how do you keep the perps from hacking into the secure site and finding ways to track a child for the wrong reasons?
Once you have this devise implanted can it be removed at any age or are you on the radar your entire life.
I would never sign a petition like this and I certainly hope it does not get the #'s needed to be even considered.
If the perps were made to be implanted there would be such a hue and cry about civil rights and lack of privacy it would never be done.
But what does the child do, who protects the child?
    Just my thoughts today.

I heard about this as well and I refuse to EVER have such a thing implanted in my children. I love my children and I refuse to ever do anything like that for the exact reasons you mentioned. Technology isn't 100% safe. Anything computerized has the possibility of hackers getting into it and using it for no good.

I think the best way to protect your children is to always know where they are and have them with you 24/7. And that is a hard job in itself and fairly impossible.

To be honest, I wouldn't even want to know where all these perps are. I know where I live there are 5, but if I knew exactly where, I probably would find out there was one a few houses up and go into complete freak mode and never leave the house with my children unless they were strapped to me...

I think the scariest part of being a parent is the knowing that no matter what you do, or how hard you try, you can not protect your children from all the nasties in the world today. It's the only real fear I have anymore.

Why would they put implants into children? who exactly would be looking out for these children once implanted?

Why not put implants in offenders? So officials would be able to track where they have been and where they are....

    Doesn't make sense to me.

Definitely need to have the perps implanted instead of the kids. That should be part of the price they pay and, as long as they don't get themselves into trouble, there shouldn't be a problem anyway.

Over here they are registered and have to notify police of their dwelling. Police are meant to keep a close eye on them without invading their privacy too much.

I know as a parent this next part may sound a tad wrong, but everyone deserves a little privacy.

I think the way Australia's system works is a good set up. Though I do feel that they should not be allowed to reside within a certain distance from hospitals, schools, recreational grounds and swimming pools. (like a million miles) As I know that there are 5 where I live and one is across the road from the pool and up the road from our school... like a minute at the most from the school on foot! Not kewl!

In Canada as well they have to register but as they really only have to report in once a month or so they can easily move around. The only way to keep them in one place is to put them in jail.
My ideal for them is a cell with a hole in a solid door where a food tray can fit through. No contact with anyone.
When my children were very young they started a plan where they finger printed all children who's parents wanted them to.
We didn't do that. We have their fingerprints but the officials don't.
Governments have taken over so much of our lives and screwed up so much of the country and the world I am not about to let them have control of my family any more than I have to.
Implant castrate make them watch Davie and Goliath (clay animation religious show from years ago) the perps.
    leave the children alone.

I think that castration is the only way to stop them to be honest.

The sad truth is that nothing we do will ever stop people from hurting others, especially children. When it comes to the implanted GPS, I just wonder how it will work. Will people be monitoring the children 24/7? If so then who are these people and how much are they being paid?! Isn't there something like forty million children in America? My numbers could be off, but even if it was only five million we would need an army to monitor this.

I'm assuming, however, they think we should have it implanted so that just in case the worst happens we have a way to find the child. Still, there is a good amount of time between the kidnapping and knowing your child has been taken. If nothing else they could kill the parents and have a few extra days. The point is that no matter what we do to protect ourselves, sometimes tragedies will occur. I think we as a society would be better off acknowledging that sometimes horrific things happen and that they are a part of life.

As for the whole "implants in the offenders" idea... unfortunately that would not work. It's sad, but there are a lot of predators out there and I'm wondering who it is who'll be monitoring these people 24/7. Not to mention, since we're talking about the lowest of the low, these guys will probably find a way to take the implant out.

My solution: if you're found guilty of harming a child then we throw you in a hole in the ground and feed you once a week. In truth I would love to just execute them, but that wouldn't work. Our legal system is based off of the idea of preventing crime, not avenging ones already taken place.

I don't think demonizing pedophiles will accomplish anything. Child sex offenders are already so completely black-listed in Western countries that I know of that the deterrants you guys are mentioning probably won't work. You can dismember one pedophile, but two will just take his place.

Also consider that somewhat over-quoted but apparently true statistic that at least 89% of child sex offences are committed by a family member or close family friend, someone the child knows and trusts. GPS chips won't make any difference in that case.

I guess what I'm saying is that words like 'evil' and 'monster' are not medical conditions. Until we know what events or conditions causes people to do things like this, and make the necessary changes to stop those events or conditions, it probably will continue.

    But what do I know.

Crazy people are everywhere. I am a clinician working for a crisis hotline and believe me, they are everywhere.
