The commandeered volunteer

  1. When it comes to volunteering I tend to take one step back.
However, yesterday I picked my seven years old grandson up from school and discovered that he had volunteered me to make cakes for the summer fair. Ooookay! so far not too bad.

Then I'm told by his teacher that he said, 'My grandma makes the best cakes "ever"'.

Although this statement may have given my ego a boost, it also means that I have been committed to the project and have something to live up to.

So for the next few weeks I'll be practicing my baking skills, trying out new recipes.
My poor hips; no chance of dropping a size or two for this summer.

It's so sweet that your grandson thinks that, though! You seem to have a really good relationship with him, I love that.

Good luck with the cakes! I'm sure you'll blow that summer fair away!

If your grandson said that you make the best cakes ever, it's because you most likely do! :) Nothing like little eaters and appreciaters to motivate us to bake! lol!

    Thanks for the comments guys.

My daughter picked him up from school yesterday and discovered that he has roped her in to do face-painting on the day.

Oh yes! The teacher asked my daughter to let me know that, they want Fairy Cakes with butter cream - the children like those.

So much for trying out new recipes. No excuse now for not losing a few pounds.

Trilby, don't you know that children ALWAYS tell the truth?

    Hi Trilby:

I reciprocated the "look up info on the internet" that helped you find the 1926 murder, and look what I found--a nice granny like myself. I see your photo beside the Agatha Christie poster, so I understand your interest in my subject. My only comment is that you blog pieces are so sweet that I can't imagine your mind actually wanting to "write" crime stories. If you do, and any are published, please reply the titles in a private message to me.
