Violent Peace

By cydney · Aug 26, 2016 · ·
  1. a poem I wrote at work today:

    Violent Peace

    99 miles per hour
    pistols, rifles
    bullet archive
    split lip, nose bleed
    super (broken) woman
peace is not a quick visit
    to ground zero
    a mumble-mantra
it's not a turn of the cheek
but a war of choice and regret
    everyday
    more than one once

I like the theme but I find the rhythm a bit awkward. Maybe that's just me though?

Thanks, Oscar, very much for the look & comment.

You know, I'm not good with rhythm in a poem. I love music though. A paradox maybe. I'd probably really enjoy working on poetic rhythm. Thanks for the idea!

    Please don't ask me
    to jump into a lake
    full of piranhas.
    They will pull me apart
    limb by limb,
    tear out my eyelashes,
    bloody my lips
    and box my ears.

I think I'll post some old (and maybe new) poems here. This is a good theme.

    a poem from earlier today:

    By the Brook

    I'm the songbird
    watching.

    I listen to the piper
    who plays
    for no one.

    Pure

    I peeled an orange today.
    It had the thickest skin
    of any orange
    I've ever peeled.

    Earthworm

    Little worm wiggles and wiggles
    chopped into tiny pieces
    by the shovel.

    The gardener stomps her
when she comes back to life.

    Even then
    Little worm says,
    not right now,
    I'm tired.

    Silence of the Bright

    In the Spring
    I raise my blinds,
    open my windows.
    Watch the sun come up
    and during the day
    I look toward the light
    and feel better.

    In the Summer
    the light is still there.
    It's just not as new.

    In the Fall
    the light dims.
It's hard to get out of bed,
    off the couch,
    out of my own head.
    It's a struggle
    to find the light.

    In the winter

"Fall". (Scotts haughtily) American barbarians with your simplified language! :D
Anyway, nice I like this. Is it metaphor for different corcumstances? That's how I felt about it.

Is this a confession of your true feelings? I'm sorry I'm flattered but I'm gay.;)

I thought about using Autumn but in this instance I felt 'fall' was better. It's actually true. In the spring I keep my windows & blinds open and enjoy the sunshine all day long. In the summer it's too hot but the sun still shines & brightens my mood. In the fall it's just YUCK CITY - dismal, dreary. And winter is just cold & blah. Nothing.

And here's the honest truth - it's also a metaphor BUT I didn't realize that until after I'd written it.

The next song on the list was "I keep fallin' in love with you" by Alicia Keys. Silly, I know, but I like it when stuff like that happens.

Thanks for asking, @Oscar Leigh . Very glad to answer!

These are the moments when I know someone much bigger than me is in control. Much much bigger. :)

LOL @Oscar Leigh . No sweetie, I wasn't talking to you. I don't even know you. Around here anyone could be no tellin' who. I just write whatever I want to in my blog. If the shoe fits or if it applies, wear it! If I actually AM talking to someone they usually know it. :)

And let me add, I don't know you, but I really enjoy your company!
