    thought id show some of the places i've worked recently.

    this is the admiralty board room, which was used by nelson, winston chruchill etc. Built in 1726....making it older than the USA :p
    The walls are mahogany i believe, i really liked the carvings. Fireplace is marble. Very few people are allowed in this room, everything inside is uninsurable.

    This is a collection of records/estates/purchases etc from the mercers guild in london, its from 1347, and i think the oldest single item i've touched.

    @Lae, you're certainly lucky. Those carvings in the first picture look amazing.

    @Lae, that's very cool! What do you do for a living that lets you get into these places and touch these things?

    He's a master thief like Sean Connery in that movie Entrapment...but don't tell anyone.

    This was when i worked for the government. Had the impossible task of trying to keep secret info secret, met a lot of famous folk. Cant remember how many presidents/prime ministers of the different nations i've met, and some other vip's, bill gates was an unexpected one.

    haha

    CZJ or dusty old room? i know what one i'd choose! :p

    Are you, by any chance, 007? 008? 009? You can tell us - James Bond always introduces himself by name to total strangers in the movies.

    Do you know Q? 'Cause I want one of those invisible cars. Can you hook me up? :p

    Here is the little display I've put together for my gems so far. It's not magnificent, but it'll do for now. :p

    That's very nice, Lewdog! Is it remaining upright, or is it going to be shown flat on a table?

    That's gorgeous @obsidian_cicatrix . And I know that weed very well, it took over my front garden once, it's impossible to get rid off. Here, it looks perfect :)

    @jazzabel and @obsidian_cicatrix - If that's Red Valerian (Cetranthus ruber) I've been TRYING to get it to establish and seed around in my wild garden. It's gorgeous, but so far only two plants. (After about 4 years.) I guess it doesn't feel native here in Scotland, in my scree-based garden.

    What I DID plant a while back and now wish I hadn't is the orange hawkweed (fox and cubs.) Again a slow start ...but now? It's bloody everywhere. I think I'm going to have to take action against it, which pains me. It's a lovely plant, but when it starts choking out the rest, it's time to go.

    Scotland has only three basic wildflower colours ...purpley-mauve, yellow and white. Any other colour is remarkably scarce in the wild, especially in summer, so I need to encourage other coloured natural plants into my wild meadow garden. Unfortunately a few of these can become quite troublesome. And I don't find out they're trouble till it's too late!

    I know Valerian smells like butt in herb form from dealing with them in retail, what does it smell like as a fresh weed?

    @jannert : I wish I knew that! I always had trouble sleeping in the old place, I guess the garden was trying to tell me something :D It grew out of the cemented floor, it seemed to like harsh growing conditions. The garden was southeast facing, and plants really loved the sheltered warmth it provided. I had the most beautiful wisteria as well, absolutely massive, flowering two or even three times a year.

    @jazzabel and @jannert.

    Ta. I'm honestly not sure what it is. I actually took the pic from the passenger side of a car moving at about 55 mph. I was wanting to jump out and take a few close ups but the occupants were restless. (Are we there yet, are we there yet...) ;)

    The thing I love about the North Coast road, is that there are numerous fallen down buildings and ruins that the wildflowers have taken over with abandon. This time of year the show is usually the yellows, and some pinks, followed by the purples later on. There are all manner of varieties of foxgloves, valerian and being on the coast, plenty of gorse, sea-pink... loads of colour.

    I love ruins anyway, but the colour palette can be a bit drab. There's something lovely about seeing a fallen down building reclaimed by nature in such spectacular fashion.

    @Lewdog

    I'm not honestly sure, I would buy it in as dried root. I grind it then add it to wine and leave overnight. I've never actually handled the plant itself. It grows alongside other plants where ingestion would be a big no-no, so I leave that to the experts.

    You've now got me curious, though.

    It's a totally gorgeous photo @obsidian_cicatrix - especially if it was taken from a car moving at 55mph! Impressive. Certainly makes me want to see more of NI.

    I don't remember any particular smell. But when it comes into bloom (IF it comes into bloom) this year, I'll check.

    My grandmother always told me, if it doesn't smell or taste foul, it ain't doing you any good. ;)

    That was her goto when she was pouring cod liver oil down my gullet. :D
