Did anyone here watch the premiere episodes for Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul?

The first episode was alright, but the second episode reminded me what I liked most about Breaking Bad- few shows have ever been so good at building and maintaining tension through a single, extended scene.

I've heard good things about it. I'll probably wait to buy it to avoid adverts.

I thought both episodes of Better Call Saul were great. Very happy that it looks like there's another good show on AMC.

My current favorite show is The Americans, on FX. Such great writing and acting. Everything about it is fantastic. I am so excited it is on tonight (10 EST). I've been waiting since 11:00 last Wednesday for tonight's episode.

I loved Orphan Black. Can't wait for the third season to be out on DVD and in the library. Who cares they made mistakes, the characters are fantastic.

    I loved The Wire too.

I didn't like Breaking Bad but my son suggested I start with the first season so I got it from the library today.

You might wanna check this out then. It's a long scene all shot in one take, without cuts. I think it's the longest take in TV, but I'm not sure. I find it very compelling, I know I wouldn't be able to act for 6 minutes like that. :)

Being stuck in NZ I have actually sat through a couple of the WWE event things they have on TV here. I wouldn't mind but some of them are shit. I mean there were a couple of women fighting and one of them (who seemed to have a British accent- real or not I don't know) diving around all over the place selling moves like a maniac, while the other one stood there like a plank of wood.

I mean I get it when they are flipping about and diving off stuff, but when they are standing there pretending to hit or kick each other it is just tedious. Think I am more suited to Lucha Libre.

Oh yeah certainly some of them are shit but that can be said for anything. I like pro wrestling as it combines theater and story telling with sports of sorts, plus it can be just real fun to watch XD.

    Action soap opera.

But yeah of course some matches and events are shit but when you see two skilled guys get in the ring its really technical story they can tell and if you aren't technical you can make up for it with a good character or taking massive bumps. I mean yeah I admit it can get really silly but that's part of the charm that makes me into. I did a lot of play fighting when I was a kid so maybe that's why I like it but I'd really love to get in a ring someday and try it out.

Some of my favorite matches were always between Bret Hart and Owen Hart

    And as for Lucha

I think you have just re-affirmed my opinion. First two matches were a little tedious, the last one was incredible.

The two up above where Canadian technical wrestlers.

Lucha libre is very fast paced and high flying. I personally like very much like all styles or at least the ones I'm familiar with.

Haven't seen much of Japanese wrestling yet.

Cool, the 1975 premiere of Saturday Night Live is on. Interesting, especially the music and George Carlin.

So, I was watching Black Sails this morning when the plot took an unexpected turn. If I'm honest, I only watch so I can sexually objectify Zack McGowan's bod... if ever there was an ultimate fantasy 'bit of rough', he's it. Anyhoo... without spoiling, the internet trolls seem to be out in force over it. One guy was throwing a wobbler saying he could no longer identify with the main character because of the change in his perception of him, and I was amazed to see how many folks agreed with him. Makes me wonder... surely the more empathetic the viewer, the less it matters.

World's Funniest Fails might be (OK, is) the worst television show I've ever seen.

Not intended to be a religious discussion, this is a discussion of the quality of the CNN program. Please don't go off topic here, thanks.

CNN joins the ranks of the History Channel, the Discovery Channel and the Learning channel when it comes to presenting junk science as if it actually were an educational or scientific program.

I've been waiting all week for the showing of "Finding Jesus: Faith, Fact, Forgery". But 20 minutes in and all they've done so far is tell us the Bible story as if it were a given fact. They've implied the Shroud of Turin hasn't been debunked. They've barely mentioned the dating of the shroud then went right back into more Bible stories.

I'm very interested in the evidence for an historical Jesus, if there is any. One need not be a Bible believer to objectively look at the question, was there an historical Jesus?

But this program might as well been titled, "Jesus, the Bible Story." It's almost as bad as the fake shows about mermaids and megalodon. But it definitely is on the same level as the shows like Hunting Big Foot, Detecting Ghosts and Evidence of Alien Abductions (names paraphrased I don't want to look them up).

Minute 40 and so far all they've done is tell us the things in the Bible Story that seem to match the Shroud.

Going by the evidence (radiocarbon dating and tracing the history of the object) the Shroud of Turin is almost certainly a 13th-14th century fake. Now they are getting to the dating. I'm sure the next thing will be to give all the excuses for why the dating shows the Shroud is less than 1,000 years old and not from the Biblical time of Jesus. It's not a balanced rational analysis of the actual evidence.

I'm much less concerned with the religious aspects of the program. I don't care if CNN wants to tell Bible stories. What bothers me is that this broadcaster has gone down the same road as those other 3 channels, promising science but delivering garbage that in no way resembles science. The TV viewers go away thinking there is scientific evidence for Big Foot, the Bermuda Triangle, ghosts, UFOs, and now the Shroud of Turin. But there isn't any.

Finally! At minute 44 they interviewee says, "Dates to the 13th Century, it's a medieval forgery". Now they are showing how it is consistent with the art produced at in the 13th century.

At minute 48, now they are providing the doubt. Again, it sends the message to the public that the science is unreliable, not really conclusive. But the science is reliable: radiocarbon dating by three individual labs, reproduction of a similar shroud-like cloth using techniques that would have been known to people in the 13th century.

Well, that's the minute by minute rant about the lack of any quality science in mainstream broadcasting and the promotion of science doubt when you simply want to find a different outcome.

I should hate this show, but I can't stop watching the NCIS with Lady's Love Cool James and Robin.

 Not sure what you are talking about.

I was into NCIS for a while but now the new shows are just reruns of the same plot line to me.

I've taken up watching MeTV. They play reruns of shows from the 60s that I remember liking. I can't believe how awful the shows look now. Last night I tried an old McCloud rerun. There was no story, nothing, just a bunch of running around, some shooting, some more running around. Man From Uncle is so corny. I loved that show decades ago. Same thing with Mission Impossible. How did I ever find those shows intriguing?

Outer Limits and Twilight Zone are still good, but Outer Limits can be very slow, dragging on.

Fun to watch though, to remember what I used to think of the shows and what I think of them now.

Sometimes (most times) Independent Lens is so good. Like tonight, it's about a woman who grew up not knowing her white mother had an affair and her real father was black. Everyone, the mother, all the relatives and friends, were in denial until the girl was 16. That's the first time her white father found out his daughter wasn't his. She didn't find out about her real father until she was in college. By that time her parents were divorced. She confronted her mother and learned the truth. The woman made the film when she was about 30, I think, but they spliced in home movies from her childhood and her real father's funeral.

Her mother and the woman remained close, talked about things, but her father remained distant. It ended with her wedding with her long time boyfriend, another man whose parents were white and black. Both her parents were at the wedding and it ended with a hopeful future to come.

    Another incredible Independent Lens.

There is a spin-off/ franchise of NCIS set in LA. It has Robin out of Batman and Robin (Chris McDonnell?) and Lady's Love Cool James and that short woman out of Austin Powers.

It is quite terrible, just another formulaic procedural regurgitating the same plot week after week with some bad comic relief thrown in. BUT, I have a fascination with someone who must be in their late 40's and now has a career as a "serious" actor still getting billed as Lady's Love Cool James. I find it endlessly enthralling and can't stop watching him because of it.

Has anyone else had a chance to watch the Netflix show Marco Polo?

Rotten Tomato and a few other sites have given it less than favorable reviews, however it retains a four star rating on Netflix.

The story focuses on Marco Polo's early years in the court of Kublai Khan, emperor of Mongolia and China.

I myself have been impressed with it. Then again, ancient eastern culture has always been something that intrigued me.
