We're sure you'll like it very much here. Our building is three stories high, with 50 rooms on each floor. There's a square courtyard in the center and gardens we know you'll love. We hope you enjoy your stay at Glasslight Hotels! -pamphlet Ok, so this would largely be story based with few rules and people contributing to the world as they RP. The plot is that the weekend never ends, and time resets to 7:23 when they fall asleep on Sunday- attempts to stay up past midnight fail. How's it sound?
It depends on the RPers- but yeah- the plot would likely consist of trying to figure out what causes the time loops or abusing them. Maybe the hotel could get more chaotic as loops repeat.
Just a friendly note: having been with this forum and its frequent writers for near three years I've noticed most sandbox RP's such as that don't last long past the initial character meet and greet. If you want an RP to last and to be enjoyed, think of a story to go with it. Why is the time loop happening? What can stop it? What sort of things do the characters have to accomplish to rescue themselves from the hotel. What sort of chaos are you going to throw in their way along with the stuff your characters make up. Just a thought! Hope it helps.
This is an idea I had in my free time. Are any of you interested in it? I'm not going to post it right away, but I'm interested to see if it will catch on or not. WAR War has begun between the two most powerful forces of an early age. Separated for most of their lives, ideals and goals clash when a mystical force comes into play that rips apart the fabrics the two separate kingdoms had forged. Setting and Story: The year is 900 AD. The continent of Mulliard is all that is known of the world, and has hosted humanity for a long, long time. With no bridges between continents, the rest of the world remains mostly unexplored. Each side of the continent is divided into two huge empires, Alluthyn and Rennum, with an unexplored swathe of land between them. Seemingly coincidentally, both decide to send armies to see what the land has to offer, each with an issue of their own that they hope to solve. They meet, previously unknowing of each other’s existence, and both end up arriving at a mystical, purple lake where an elderly druid named Myr resides. He convinces each kingdom that the other kingdom has what they are missing. Within a month, Rennum takes a border city of Alluthyn, a declaration of war, and Alluthyn returns fire promptly. Both have been at war for 4 years, but not one battle has been waged at the lake. Presently, Alluthyn’s Senate has made the public announcement that they are officially recommending that students go into the Military, worried about a number of skirmishes along the borders they have lost. They have just sent a force towards an old fortress they know a Rennum town is near, that has an advantageous position. Rennum has just lost a whole town to Alluthyn’s Military, and the nearby town of Lum is alerted and its military readies a force to take the fortress for an advantageous position. Amidst all the fighting, no one realizes that Myr’s Lake holds what everyone desires. Its secret will remain a secret until a fateful incident in a war-torn land occurs that changes the game. Game Info: This game is about the war between Alluthyn and Rennum, with another spotlight on who Myr is and what it is about that Lake that makes it mystical. You can choose to be on either side of the continent, in either nation. Rennum has been drafting soldiers for the past couple years, and now Alluthyn is starting as well. Commanders and Chiefs on each side are discussing strategy for a pivotal battle at an old fortress near an abandoned mine that collapsed due to an earthquake. This couple of days leading up to the battle will be the starting point. The gameplay will involve all aspects of the kingdom’s daily lives and perspectives during the war. It will involve all sorts of choices that your character can make. I will post weekly about what is happening in the world, and in what circumstances all the characters are in. If I want something to happen to any one particular character, I may PM that person and work with them. Everyone will start off separated from each other, but a beginning event will draw people from close locations together, and characters can interact with each other. However, there will be no interaction between opposing characters until fighting occurs. If you have a suggestion for a subplot/main plot change, PM it to me, and we can discuss it. I am extremely unlikely to change the course of main plot events. The Two Kingdoms: You can choose to have been born in either Kingdom. Read up on a kingdom and write an interesting character that would fit. I tried to make each interesting and relevant, with different pros and cons, so don’t all flock to the same kingdom please! Alluthyn: Alluthyn is a strong oligarchy with a senate of 23 elders that controls every aspect of life. Each new member is picked by the living Senate members once one dies or is rendered unable to continue his role. Each man is raised with the idea that humans are the most intelligent of all beings and deserve to unlock the potential of the universe. The ideal Alluthynite is a man with age and experience, who has travelled far and wide in search of truth, who is always curious. Women are raised to serve the men and help them on their expeditions. Their role is to unlock the men, who in turn unlock the world. Schooling is massively important and focuses on scientific advancements and the books are constantly updated with new studies, and one of the most important facts every person learns is how to adapt to new information and doubt existing information. Students can choose afterwards to go into exploration, theorycrafting, developments and innovations, or the Military. Women school seperately, going into either Familycrafting, about how to properly raise a family, or Stabilizing, which focuses on maintenance of different public utilities. After 50, women are assigned to Nurturing, where they take care of orphans and also teach other Familycrafters. Their capital lies in a valley surrounded by hills filled with towns brimming with trade and commerce. The capitol building is surrounded by a blue moat. Architects flourish as rewards for great buildings using new techniques are given by the Senate. Improvements on existing structures and other societal mechanisms are rewarded by them as well. Every town has at least one school, with a scholar as a headmaster. The elders wish for the mysteries of the world to be unlocked, so explanations for the world around them with evidence are cherished. The Senate hires a group of young men, who are called Aryn, that are given free reign and funding to explore the world and discover until they reach Senate-eligible age. Any man can become one by convincing current Aryn members of their worth and curiosity. Aryn members lead and coordinate Explorer graduates. The Alluthyn military, simply called the Military, formed out of necessity against brigands and such, is small but advanced. Straight out of school, one can decide to join, and spends the next years of their lives learning how to use the current weapons and fight in a group. They live in their academy, and are ready to fight at any moment. Rennum: Rennum is a republic, with a house of elected representatives that meet every month in the Great Hall to discuss issues. The Council is led by a retired general, called a Godfather, who has authority over any single representative, so he can punish members who overstep their authority. These representatives can be any person, man or woman, over the age of 15 who is elected by their peers in their school. Each Rennumman is raised with the concept that all the world can belong to humans if they put in the effort. People must achieve a state of harmony with nature and God in order to reincarnate as a newborn. The ideal Rennumman is one that is an artist and warrior, who fights with both brush and sword with emotion to spread enlightenment amongst his peers. Painting, sculpture, poetry, and many other art forms are all massively loved and supported by the public. The capital lies on the top of a mesa, with a set of elaborate stairs that conceal hidden traps and weapons, with doors that soldiers attack out of in case of an assault. The land around the mesa is surrounded by a high castle wall with archers stationed there. Outside the wall, towns separated by long roads thrive with populations of about 5,000 each. When a town exceeds 5,000 adult inhabitants, a new town is established farther away, and a new road is built there. The general public has the desire for expansion and inner perfection. If one wants, one can, while in military school, apply for the School of Arts and Architecture, which is in the capital. This team of graduates, called the Godden, is commanded by the Council, and they live in luxury their whole lives in return for designing monuments towards human perfection and godly worship. Being in the Godden is highly desirable and respected. All Rennumi must undertake military school, and learn the art of fighting for their country as a group, as well as in self-defense. There are numerous paths that students can take, focusing on one area or another. Everyone chooses their role. Both men and women can take whatever classes they want. Childbearing women get benefits and are retired from service in return for raising a new soldier to contribute to the country. They can still become artists or architects after raising their child, but are often unfit for military service. Character Creation Create an original character! Tip: You don’t need to write this down, but have a goal and aspiration for your character so they can have a focus in their lives. Kingdom: (Alluthyn or Rennum) Name: Gender: (Keep in mind the restrictions for different genders) Age: (Keep in mind the classes available for whatever age you choose) Appearance: Class: Goals/Aspirations/Personality: Perspective: (His/her thoughts, experiences with what his/her class is, role in society, etc. Remember, take into account how they’ve been raised, so don’t be too modern in your thinking) Rules PM CS’s to me before posting them to the discussion board. My word is law. No god-modding. I control the main characters and the plot. Do not try to twist them around to suit your character’s story. Keep it realistic please. Most everything in the world is realistic, except for Myr and his plot. Nobody knows anything currently about his powers or what his goals are, and it’s not a talked-about subject amid this whole war. Be respectful OOC, please. You can have one or more characters. They can be on either kingdom. However, if you choose for each of them to be on different sides, they cannot be related. If you have some great idea otherwise, PM me, and I’ll consider it. PM me about any suggestions/questions that you might have. I will post on the discussion board to try and clear up any confusion. Subplots are fine. Make them about whatever. Just keep it within your kingdom, please. Read every post and pay attention. If someone attacks you, and you didn’t read the post, your post will be ignored and you will be asked to write a response. In order to keep the flow going, please notify me if you are going to be absent from the roleplay for a significant amount of time. I can write your character out of any important situations and have you return when you get back. Battle scenes between two characters MUST be collabs. One of the biggest retail stores in America known for their abundance of various supplies, from housewares to food to toys and games but also their sub-par customer service and from past employees their apparently poor working conditions. Which brings us to our current situation. The year is 2000 and the Shop'N'Drop just outside of Great Barrington Massachusetts is going through major changes. Most of its current employees quit due to massively unsafe working environment and some can be found protesting outside the store, but as far as the health department gathered Shop'N'Drop is a safe and fine place to work. And please note that bribery was in no way associated with the investigation or the department’s decision. In fact there are only two people working on a consistent basis currently. Jack 'The Big Man' King the superstore’s totally fair, humble and not at all corrupt manager. The second is Gary Garrison, a former military integrator on various black sites (But that's classified…..which is why he tells everyone). Whatever military background he came from doesn't play much into his work ethic. Garrison can normally be found asleep in the various places or doing tactical raids against the food department. That’s where YOU come in. Yes YOU! The player aka Shop'N'Drop's new employee. Be you a teen who needs a job, a slacker who never had a job or a loser who’s still working retail in his forties, then please send in your application! Shop'N'Drop This superstore has anything and everything you want, all separated for your convenience, we will go over each department from largest to smallest. Housewares- The housewares department is by far the largest section of the store. Its sections aisles are covered with pots, pans, plates, blenders, tools and almost every sort of home appliance you can name and plenty you’ve seen on infomercials. Half of the middle section of the place is also a part of housewares but operates as the furniture section, with wonderful mattresses, desks, couches, chairs and even work out equipment. Takes up the front of the store plus aisles 1-6 Food- This is of course the second biggest part of the store with its own subsections, Vegetables and fruits, sodas and waters, cold foods, canned food and of course the bakery and butchers. These take aisles 7-10. Both the housewares and food sections obviously require more then one employee to handle. The sections below are the smaller parts of the store but still an amazing asset to the beast that is Shop'N'Drop. Pets- The pet department is the store's answer to pet palace which shares the town center with them. The pet section is found in the far back left end of the store. Small as it might be two people are normally needed to manage the animals (which are just gerbils, birds and fish) They also have most common pet foods and toys for the animals they carry, but also dogs and cats. Toys and games- This is the aisle in the back of the store that’s smack dab in the middle of the pet department and electronics. Three shelves. One shelf full of baby dolls, action figures and random play time toys (such as the jump ropes, ball bin, and LEGOS) second shelf in the aisle is bikes and of course the famed wall of board games and cards are last. Electronics- The department in the back of the right side of the store, its about the same size as the pet section but if you like video games or need the newest console of year then this is the place for you. CD's, DVD's and games are plenty, though whoever works in this part is best to have electronic knowledge or not......up to you when the customer gets testy. Barrington Town Center! Shop'N'Drop's rivals are right next door in this cul-de-sac like shopping center are various fellow stores that specialize in similar or different business practices. Counting Shop'N'Drop there are seven stores in total. Rotating left from SND in this order are: Pet Palace- A store that not only sells gerbils, birds, and fish but also cats, dogs, mice, ferrets and plenty of other furry friends. Phillips FatFox's Pizza- A Chuck E Cheese rip off that is filled with creepy animatronics but much are the depressed parents and snot nosed brats running about the place. Known for their disgusting pizza, spoiled brats, fist fights with parents and creepy vans being driven by even creepier dudes from time to time. Glossy Beauty- A make up shop filled with gossiping women and men who love learning about the affairs just as much as they love applying makeup and doing hair. Ma and Pa's- Ma and Pa's is the oldest and smallest store in the town center, best store if you be needing a pack of gum and non big business customer service. Of course Ma and Pa hate each other with a passion like no other and are often arguing with one another in front of their customers. They also have a hatred of young people and stores like Shop'N'Drop and The Mighty Narwhal. Blockbuster: Yeah......just Blockbuster The Mighty Narwhal- The only store in the center that can rival SND in size and consumers…..in fact Narwhal is normally ahead. Not only do they have better prices then and many of the same things SND but a built-in Movie Theater and sizable clothing section. (Any guesses as to who wrote this part? XD ) Anyway we’ve been discussing doing an annual roleplay community tourney in the style of a tourney in an open environment kinda with brand new characters. We are still working out the dents. But the idea is to have Pheonix as the mod post the game and the rest players would of course enter in the form of competitors, it would be done in brackets of course. We are posting this message to here as since its a community project, we figured it would be best to include everyone in the creation of this as its a thing that we are hoping that we can get 90 percent of our small section to play when it happens. We are having tremendous difficulty coming on to how to make the system of battle. Not to so much the classes or power set but the rules of wins and loses, Here are the ideas we've come up with so far. 1: Voting system: People whom aren't in battle will vote the outcome by PMing to Mod Pheonix and in this sense it would be more of a character popularity contest. 2: Chance system: A third party does dice rolls in the battle to decide which moves between the two fighting players land and which do not 3: Strategy system: We somehow design a magic or mechanic system that is fair but works to not make sure fights don't last forever or that people can lose.....or something? Anyway game is EXTREMELY EXTREMELY rough but if this catches anybody's interest we are hoping we could all develop together .....as in the entire sub forum. If we can pull this off together, we think that it could be a really cool yearly event that brings some needed pep and circumstance to the RP sub forum. Any input is welcome. Sounds cool, I suppose. I'm more interested in the character interaction side of RP'ing, not the battles, but I'm willing to give it a go.
Well idea was for open area So it could be a lot of character interaction also a strategy game or whatever kinda game it is
So it should be noted an RP about tactics or a game of chance will not diminish character interaction. Though at the end of the day what are RPG's but games of chance, the unpredictability of the player on narrative is one of the main thing that makes them interesting imo. Characters are my favorite thing though. But a game of chance inside a game that is unpredictable is fitting, no?
Even a game of tactics like a chess match could benefit character interaction And voting well might subconsciously make people really go out, not that we don't already but like make some sort of out of the box character or heck any of the options could do that They could all benefit narrative and character interaction in someway
