I have a main character, who has a name I dislike. My plan has always been to change it, but recently it has got in the way of me writing another word, I guess, how can I develop a character if the name don't fit? So she is a stripper, or an ex-stripper, but still uses her stage name. But I have no idea what this name could or should be..... Any names people consider fit the job description?
Candi--use an I, it's more sleazy--Angel, Serena, Brittany, Chastity, Crystal, Brandy, Lorry, Lexxy, Ginger, Maya, Dawn, etc, etc.
Ann-Marie Guzy. Yeah, she was my professor at college, but I never really liked her because she was such a jerk. Besides, her name just screamed an 1880s prostitute.
Tricare-snatcher, BHA-Hunter, the infamous dependappotomus, to name a few xD (army inside jokes here)
Ok to put in a bit more context, I want the reader to like her. And the names kinda got to be timeless, I think britney wears thin. But thanks for the suggestions!
So, basically, you want to name your character something that makes your reader instantly relate to your character and also puts that character into history and makes them have lasting power through generations of readers? Well... I wish there was one magic name to do that. I'd name all my characters that. How about 'Mickey Mouse'? That seemed to work for Disney...
Well, personal experience always trumps guessing, and I've got plenty of field trip experience on this one. The best name I ever heard was 'Squirrel.' Ivy, Ginger, Azure, Brit, are very popular. I've met a few Londons and Paris as well.
Having a name that is "timeless" for a stripper, you could have a normal name that can be transferred into a "sexy" nickname. Andrea could be the real name and Andi the stripper name. Roxanne (real name) and Roxi (sexy name). Kathrine/Cathrine (real name) and Kat/Cat (sexy name). Lola can be a real or sexy name. Veronica (real name) and Roni (sexy name). Simone (real name) and Monie (sexy name), although Simone could be the sexy name too. I could go on. Let me know if you need more suggestions.
Can we get some characterization here? Stripper names are essentially stage names, they should give a brief glimps into what the performer is all about. I.E. If shes 6'6" and 250Lbs, Candi might not fit, but Tex? Well everything is bigger in Texas...
Go with "Summer". I got good vibes with that name. It has everything you want. A ray of sunshine, a ray of shining spotlight.
How about taking from the names from flowers. They could be alluring. like Rose, Daisy, Iris, Jasmine, Lily, (could add mystery, it could be her real name or not), Aster (beauty), Camellia (lovable-red), Violet (purple, matched for older women)
