Only resources, or things which jog my brain

  1. Don't expect too much in this blog. This is not meant to be a traditional, rather a way to keep track of things I stumbled on in crazy research about writing, resources and quotes or good advice. If any of you out there enjoy it, so be it :)

Read and Analyze - As opposed to only reading. Everyone knows that for storytellers reading is essential. And mostly one can't part these storytellers (i.e. me) from books for extended periods of time. But, here is the catch, if you want to be a good storyteller, start thinking logically and at gut level about the novels you read. I did that up till now more or less by instinct but never really consciously. This is good advice I think. I am going to make up a list of three good points, as well as three bad points about every novel I read. Starting of course with my favourite novels.

Author's voice transmitting to Writing voice
    - This one is a bit dodgy I think. Sigh. Nevertheless. Sigh. The theory is (and just after taking a glancing introspective look), that author's voice reflects the author. I will sit down after writing this first blog entry and look if that is really true what my gut says. Make a list of words that describe 'me'. Then look at how that trait is reflected in my writing voice, or if it reflected at all. Look at if there are discrepancies. What I should do then, I have no idea. Will experiment, should be fun :D

Stop reading - This one is from my own experience. Since starting writing I've not glanced at a novel by another writer. Some people out there will probably tell me that I am going about this wrong, but I feel that my writing voice got boosted to heights I never dreamt about. Does that sound cocky? Probably, yet my Beta's are satisfied *smile* and so I don't complain.
