Reviewing at WF

By mugen shiyo · Apr 8, 2011 · ·
  1. How does one review an item that has been reviewed at least five times already? Either you really do have new insight or you have to repeat what others have already said? But I am being narrow-minded, I guess. I can also find a post that doesn't have any reviews. Is that why they did it? Getting feedback is gold, and I guess this is the moderators way of spreading the wealth. And so this concludes today's episode of the painfully obvious but somewhat annoying.

Honestly, I don't look at how many reviews a piece has or read any of the other reviews before I post mine. Reviewing is as much for you as it is for the writer, so pick something you want to review, regardless of how many others have already done so, and go at it!

I agree with hiddennovelist. I don't look at any reviews. I print out a piece and critique it, then respond to the writer with my key problems/comments. I also agree that you should want to review the writing. If not, you may not put as much effort into the critique or lose interest and never finish reviewing it. If you can, find something with similar themes or in your preferred genre. This will help both your writing and perhaps introduce you to new literary devices.

yeah, i can see what you mean and was tempted to just do that, but i kept thinking how annoying when most of the time everything has been said. i wasn't even sure if it would qualify as a good review since one of the disqualifications is that you can't just repeat what previous people have suggested. but i guess it builds character, lol. can't be my way all the time...
