I am in my late fifties. I have a vivid imagination and ever since I was a kid I’ve been told I should be a writer. When I was in my 20’s I loved to write poetry but I strayed away from that. I served in the Navy for 11 years before receiving a disability discharge. I developed writing habits in the Navy that do not translate well to creative writing. In the service they want the facts, no emotion, and screw the narrative. Technical, Techical! I have been out of the Navy for some time but I still have the writing habits I developed in the service.
I have returned to writing now and again but I get frustrated at times. Part of my disability has to do with PTSD and I am a bit of an introvert. I’m also a little leary of putting myself out there and being noticed. One reason is I stood up to and exposed racist in my division during one patrol on a SSBN and ended up getting death threats in my bunk and notes telling me to commit suicide. It sucked.
More later, my wife is calling for me.
