Started writing late, in my mid-teens, but had always been an avid reader. Won a couple of minor awards for poetry and short fiction in my mid-twenties and had a number of essays and reviews published. Various other writing-related gigs include teaching composition and literature at California State University and editing of a small political rag (now defunct). Weighed my chances of ever making a living as a writer and decided I'd be better off as an entrepreneur. Began a business outfitting walking tours in Italy, where I lived for over a decade (living in Morocco now). I never stopped writing though - one novel, various stories, and a boatload of poetry. But I kept it to myself, waiting for when I really felt ready. Which is starting to happen around about now....
