- Yes, Tradition
When I was only two, I almost died of a rare childhood disease, which did nothing more than leave behind a nasty scar. When I was four, I was in the habit of finding and playing with black widow spiders. By the age of ten, while I was living on the small island of Guam, I had been through seven typhoons—including a super typhoon named Omar—and two major earthquakes—one of these was the well documented 1989 earthquake that occurred in the Bay Area of California. When I lived in Mexico I was shot at no less then eight times, but never hit once. In my first week living there, as I was pouring a bowl of cereal, a scorpion crawled out just before my first bite—needless to say, that was my last bowl of cereal on my mission. I’ve moved more times then I am old, and lived on the East coast almost as much on the West coast. My favorite phrase comes from Isaac Asimov: “I write for the same reason I breathe—because if I didn’t, I would die.”
