What if I didn't want quantity and I just wanted hard liquor. Money being no object.

I don't drink (I'm 13 lol) but I would suggest vodka. But just one shot glass.

Once, some college chicks went into my school playground in the middle of the night and drank half a bottle of vodka each and then passed out and had to go to the hospital. Reporters were interviewing we schoolchildren for days.

It comes down to why you want to try alcohol. If you want to experience the feel of intoxication, well, Tequila will do the job. If you're curious about what's so great about alcoholic beverages, you'll want to sample a variety of them.

One piece of advice -- stick to one kind at a sitting, and no more than 2-3 shots a night. Try aromatic spirits first: sambuca, Irish Mist, spiced rum, ouzo. Perhaps some cordials, like Grand Marnier, Kahlua, Chambord. Save the hard spirits for last - vodka, tequila, whiskey, white rum, gin. These burn the most going down, and the tastes are more an acquired pleasure.

Finish each night with plenty of water, to reduce the chance of a hangover. Leave yourself a good twelve hours to get sober before driving or working with machinery.

There are a few really good bottles of whisky starting at $150. A lot of these whiskies tend to be really smooth (no burn), so they shouldn't be a problem for someone who has never had alcohol before (at least in terms of the taste). You won't be able to appreciate them, but if that's not an issue for you, go for it. And if you don't like it, I'd always be willing to take the bottle off your hands. That's how nice I am.

Is scotch expensive over there in the US? A bottle of Maker's Mark in the local supermarket here costs about £27 (which, according to Coinmill, is a few cents shy of $44), which seems pricey to me. But I am, and always have been, something of a skinflint ;p

JJ - what about adding a mixer? Gin and Tonic? Vodka and Ginger Ale? Brandy and Babycham? (OK, that last one's just for my sister-in-law at Christmas…)

It can get fairly expensive. The cheap bottles are $40-50. Most of the good stuff is $70 and up. I've never bought Maker's Mark before, so I'm not sure how much that costs. For reference, a shot of JW Black is between $8-10.

Ten bucks a shot? Holy Frijole, that's a lot! JW Black is a funny one, though, because it used to be the case that the black label was only available here as an import. Nowadays you seem to see JW Black in every supermarket, but the old, run-of-the-mill red label is nowhere to be seen.

I suppose I ought to look into this more closely, since I'm writing a MC who works in a bar… Yeah, I need to do research… that's it… yeah. Research. What? It's a valid reason!

That Red Stag stuff is pretty good. It's a cherry flavored bourbon.

There's only 2 sides to a usb right? So why does it take 3 attempts to get it in?

The 'U' in USB stands for Universal, so shouldn't it go in no matter which way you put it? I'd sue if I was you for 'truth in advertising.'

Watching Rise of the Zombies on SyFy as I work.

Levar Burton - Were you bored? Nothing else to do?

Mariel Hemingway - You are looking extra man-ish in this film. I don't think even Brock Samson has a jaw that square.

I'm late to the drinking party I see. @JJ_Maxx any luck yet? Make a decision? I'm a Jack Daniels girl. Used to be a JD straight (out of the bottle) kinda girl - no chasers, lol. Now I'm a Jack & Coke, SoCo straight (I'm all civilized and using a glass in my old age), or Watermelon Vodka and Sprite kind of girl. Though, really, I rarely drink these days and most of the alcohol in my house ends up in recipes, lol. Especially Spiced Rum and Jack. Yummmmmy!

Go slow though. That's the biggest thing. If you go to quick you'll think you're fine until you stand up and fall on your face (more or less). Don't ask how I know that... I'm trying to forget. ;)

@Wreybies You avoiding F/B too? We should start a support group... oh wait.

Nope. I've seen Red-Bull & (liquor of choice) turn the most demure little sorority gals into "I'll fucking cut you, you fucking pig copper!" piles of Abercrombie & Fitch appointed insanity. o_O I tended bar for a year at place called The Purple Porpoise across the street from The University of Florida.
