What compels you to write? Very often it's a lack of sleep and an excess of coffee. Why do you write? Because I have so many worlds and people in my head and if I don't put it down on paper it gets very crowded. What makes you write what you write? I write fantasy because the real world is far too grim and complicated and I'd rather avoid it as much as possible. I write sci-fi because I love space and science and I want other people to like it, too. What made you decide you liked to write? I liked to make up stories and my mum once suggested I try writing them down so I could show them to other people. Then I found out that doing this was actually considered a legitimate career choice and so I never stopped. What do you write? Mostly fantasy (because dragons and wizards are cool) and also some sci-fi (because spaceships and laser guns are also cool).
What compells you to write? The constant urge as a child to create a perfect world where every problem was resolved and was totally different from my own. Why do you write? I've always had a thing for the fictional. Growing up and even today novels, movies and TV shows are a big part of my life and they're what I enjoy talking about and are my hobbies. What makes you write what you write? I'm a romantic. I'm still waiting to find that special someone and I love the romance aspect of books. While I know it's fairy tale material, deep down inside most girls want that fairy tale even if it is fiction. What Made you decide you liked to write? I always found written words were easier than spoken. Words are fascinating and complex and can move you to pieces, make you cry or shout in disbelief. They have the power to describe the perfect person in your eyes and yet be completely different in someone else's. It's amazing at what you can create if you just sit down and think. Your mind is a world full of new things just waiting to be written down and explained! What Do You Write? I write anything really. I've been writing poetry for as long as I remember but I also write newsy stuff - I have a blog (www.mylifeinlyrics) that I post music reviews, concert reviews, movie reviews (occasionally) and whatever else but I've also started a more creative blog for my fictional writing. I went to school for journalism so I have the non-fiction writing background but I want to create a new world. I aspire to write a romance novel that is also compelling and has a little bit of excitement as well. I know you've probably all heard this before but Nora Roberts is one of my favourite authors and her writing inspires me!
It's like asking 'Why do we breath or eat?' its because, for some of us, it's what we're meant to do. It's why we have worlds and universes forged within our own minds, to build them.
What compels you to write? when I sit down to write even if just an exercise in writing that I do quite often to try and better my writing it makes all the noise in my head quiet down at least til I am done writing so I guess what compels me to write it to try and retain some form of sanity. Why do you write? I write because I love to write it has always been there for me I remember when I was very young like 5 or 6 I always created stories now ofc at that age they were very basic with not much in the way of anything resembling a prose or flow but it has always been in my blood to want to write down the various stories that run through my head. What makes you write what you write? I write what I enjoy to read I usually have no clue where a story is going to go I have a vague Idea for a basis for a story then I just start writing and see where it will go What Made you decide you liked to write? I have always felt I was born to create stories I have always been good at it, but the one event that really sticks out in my mind is from the 5th grade my teacher wanted us to write a story with the topic of " you're driving down the road listening to the radio when an announcement comes across saying that a pickle has just escaped from a big mac at McDonalds" min 5 pages everyone else wrote barely 5 pages I turned in 87 pages cause she did not place a maximum have been seriously hooked ever since What Do You Write? usually I write High Fantasy placed in a world I created, lately I have been playing around with changing to a crime/ thriller type of book which I really enjoy to read as well

The answer to pretty much all those questions is the same. I have an over active imagination that, if I don't give an outlet through writing, would take over my entire life. There's also the enjoyment of the creative process, of putting characters out of their comfort zone and seeing how they handle it.

This is an excellent question and I've enjoyed looking at all the varied answers - seems that there are as many reasons to write as there are writers. Personally, I do it for therapy and as self expression. I'm not a particularly vocal person so get my feelings out through the written word. We all express ourselves differently and, for me, I find that means of expression through writing. To each his own I guess. The first thing I've ever written in was a Journal, I started writing when I was 10 yrs old and back then I was really a Journalist until I stopped writing in it and one of my friends got mad at me for what I was writing. I took a break and started writing again when I got older, it happened again another friend got mad at me. LOL. I always write about people and I'm not afraid tosay what I think in journals about my friends and I always tell the truth. I don't hide anything. And then as I got older, I was writing fanfics. But I became tired of fanfics, so I decided to write real stories that were fictional stories and when I was a kid I used to write at a website called bcreek.com it's still there, but its shut down. Anyways, that's my history as a writer.
And I forgot to mention, what compels me to write, is just reading other books that many famouse authors have written. The way they are written and then the story it'self really inspires me to write.

I like if the author gave a good impression/description of a place/event. 4. What Made you decide you liked to write? Hmm probably the thought that I CAN write. I think I am good at writing no matter what. Not extraordinary, but good. 5. What Do You Write? Whatever crosses my mind and could made a good story.
1. What compels you to write? having something to say 2. Why do you write? see #1 3. What makes you write what you write? see #1 4. What Made you decide you liked to write? writing 5. What Do You Write? in my old life, i wrote virtually anything that takes words... since i gave up writing commercially, to mentor aspiring writers, my own writings have consisted mainly of essays and 'philosetry' that i make available for free both on my website and in 6 book collections at http://www.free-ebooks.net/profile/290871/maia for the past couple of years, i've done rewrites and even ghostwriting for clients on occasion, in order to provide financial help to my youngest daughter and youngest sister, since my only steady income is social security...
What compells you to write? Why do you write? What makes you write what you write? My past experiences - better for me that they're on paper than always inside my head, lets out the negative emotions. To see my name on a novel in a bookstore and chuck the novel at the person it's about. What Made you decide you liked to write? Don't remember, have been writing since I was a child. What Do You Write? If it's short stories then depressing drama. Novel, chick lit with dark themes and humour behind it.
What compells you to write? To make my ideas something tangible. Why do you write? To share what I've thought of with others What makes you write what you write? Not sure? Having an interest in the subject matter I would suppose. What Made you decide you liked to write? The fact that I can spend an entire day putting pen to paper and feel as though only a few minutes have gone by. What Do You Write? I love to create worlds and places and then fill them with people and lore, to create civilizations lost to time, or empires that have been swallowed whole by otherworldly forces. I am heavily influenced by Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith and the like, and write dark fantasy and sci-fi.
Why Do You Write? Some of us have giant worlds of monsters and myths and beauty and emotion and horror (im sure im not the only one). It comes out - with me it has to come out, some times as music, some times as drawings, sometimes as long walks through the mountains that surround my house. Mostly it comes out in stories.
I write because I get something..an idea..a thought...an opinion, bouncing around my head like a ball bearing in a fishbowl, that needs to come out or drive me mad in the process. Writing is the only thing that I have done consistently and without question most of my life. Wether it gets seen/heard by hundreds or simply one, as long as it is our of my head, I'm good!
Writing has a facility to express in more or less literal terms ideas of feeling, impression, and activity: walking, playing, loving, and so on. Music has the facility to directly express - or influence - emotions as they correspond to a listeners sensibilities, though both might be in the vaguest terms, but substantial anyhow. The plastic arts and painting have a facility to literally and figuratively describe visual impressions of the world. All of them go further than these short descriptions, but for their more immediate purposes I think they're mostly correct. From a musician's point of view, I write because music isn't an absolute art: it's not a Gesamtkunstwerk, and so it doesn't satisfy all the artistic impulses one might have. In writing I have literal expression; in music I have emotional impression - I write for and against music's incapabilities.
I write because I like to create my own universe for stories, I dislike how other works have been done so I create my own work. I doubt I would ever publish a book but it is so damn fun to world build.
I write because it makes me feel good. To look at a page and see a life spinning off of it. Picturing the faces that I brought into existence even if no one else can see them. Anything can compel me to jot down a few words. A smell from the kitchen, the feel of an old sweater I would have sworn I threw away. The most simple things bring images to my mind that are, breathtaking. And the only way I can express these things that I see is through my words.
What compells you to write? My past experiences. Why do you write? Honestly? It helps me get a good nights sleep. I use a lot of my emotional experiences to fuel most of my writing, it's quiet a psychotic experience for me—cathartic even. But ultimately, I write to entertain. What makes you write what you write? Erm, what makes me write? The way that's worded, it's as if I have to come up with some external force besides myself, which forces makes me open up word. But, again, I suppose that's my emotional experiences—I want to write about them. What Made you decide you liked to write? How it feels when I write something I feel is good. What Do You Write? I write fiction that's woven into our present day. I'm not really into classical fantasy type stories about wizards, vampires and all that childish shit. I'm really into conspiracy stories and alternate realities. The Matrix is a pretty good example.
1. What compells you to write? --- Anything that moves me... a dream, a person I meet, someone I see on the street, a song, a movie, a book, etc... 2. Why do you write? --- Because I am a naturally creative person and I need an output for that part of who I am. 3. What makes you write what you write? --- The need to expell the words and conversations spinning through my head. I always have characters and scenes dancing around in there and if I don't get them out... I can't sleep. Literally... I was actually awake most of last night because I hadn't been able to finish a fanfic chapter I was on. In hindsight, I probably should have just gotten up and finished it instead of lying in bed like an idiot for six hours. 4. What Made you decide you liked to write? --- Biggest hint: In elementary school, during computer class, I managed to skirt around my actual school work and write a 32 chapter story (this would have been Grade 6 or 7). I knew I liked to write because I would push off other things (like school or work) that needed doing in order to write whatever was going on in my head. 5. What Do You Write? --- Easy... because I love it!!!
