Main character is the one telling the story. Sometimes the story is about the main character, sometimes it's not. If we take the main character away, the story won't happen.

Major character is like the main character in that the plot tends to either revolve around them or has them involved in it. Just like a main character, though, if you removed them, the story won't happen.

I actually had to do some research for my name.

I ended up going with Abiku, which means, "Predestined to Die", it is based on a Yoruba word and given to children who die before reaching puberty.

It fit with the character because Abiku is a changeling created by fairies for the purpose trick the humans. They are supposed to transform when they near the age of 13 and die soon afterwards. So the word fit perfectly with the character (who chooses his own name) and with his personality.

I've just finished writing the first draft of a story with different characters than the one I had before. I called the story "Unnamed". This one is not set on Earth but another planet (which, in a moment of TOTAL inventiveness, I have called "Unnamed", hence the name of the story) so most of the characters do not have real names, just names I have made up. The only exception is the main character, who comes from Earth.

Main Characters:
Aaron (main character)
Enajee (the last of a race of creatures known as Orbs, his name is a pun on the word energy because Orbs are floating crystal balls with electric powers)
Argan (Basically the version of Aaron that lives on Unnamed, he is one of the tall, white skinned (as in sheet white skin) humans that come from Unnamed and his name is basically a fusion of Aaron and Doppelganger)
Anassi (Argan's eventual love interest, despite being of a race who are sworn enemies to the Humans called the Human X, her name is sort of derived from assassin, which is a very long story)
Rex (A reptilian yet dog-like creature called a Rabile, his name just comes from the fact that Aaron names him like he would with a pet)

Other Characters:
Villis (Anassi's sister who is still a part of the Human X army, she is the most ruthless and evil of all the Human X so I took her name from the word Villain)
Queaker (The queen of the Human X, she is not as ruthless as previous queens so her name comes from queen and weak)
Farof (Leader of the humans and also took care of Argan as a child, hence why his name resembles the word father)
The Man (An unnamed man who sends Aaron to this planet, despite his identity not being revealed, another reason that the name of the story fits)
Unal (The first queen of the Human X who pledged the humans as enemies, only mentioned, her name is based on the Spanish word uno)
Bestil (A human who only appears briefly to guide Aaron, Argan and Enajee on the first stage of their journey which they take on the back of Sallaps, horse/giraffe like creatures. She works with animals for a job so her name is a reflection of the word beast)
