I want someone to put in a passage from one of these authors' books and see if it recognises them. I would do it but I don't have any of their books handy and I'm lazy.

    Someone did

    Except that alone isn't enough to really disprove this system. Because after all Style is not 100% consistant everyone here got more than one author at points. So an real author getting rated like someone else isn't surprising. Also the system seems to only rate so much of a sample. And like Lemex said;

    I agree

I put in the first few pages of Rudyard Kipling's Kim, and it said he wrote like William Gibson. Weird.

Then I put in "Mowgli's Brothers," the first story in Kipling's The Jungle Book. It said he wrote like Rudyard Kipling. Yay! It got one right!

So basically you need to put in your entire novel?

I just pasted in the entire Heart of Darkness and it gave Cory Doctorow.

Nope. I don't think it works quite like that. In theory I think it can.

    I tested this.

I did my entire book. Got Dogulas Adams. Tested each chapter. Only one chapter was raided as Douglas Adams. Chapter 1. Considering 22 chapters or 35 were Stephan King. I decided to test it.

Started with Chapter 16. Marked as a Twain Chapter. Did it from there to the rest of the novel. Still rated it Twain. I think it has a text limit or only rates first X number of lines.

Since it only asks for a few paragraphs this seems like it would make sense.

    I wrote
'In a hole in a ground, there lived a hobbit' and got JRR Tolkien.

    I wrote
'These are the times that try men's souls' and got Bram Stoker.

    I wrote
'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times' and got Arthur Clarke.

    Lastly, I wrote
'“K-Kakkarot ... Frieza's unlike any opponent you've ever faced. He's...cold, cruel. Ruthless. He will show no mercy to you, no compassion.”
Goku stared at Vegeta, then at Frieza, then back at Vegeta. “Vegeta,” he said, “I don't understand-”
Vegeta coughed, gasped for breath. Goku almost winced at the man's pain. To think that they were mortal enemies just a few months ago. “He...he killed our people, Kakkarot. Your mother and father...my father...our race...”
“Oh boo-hoo, enough.” Frieza raised a finger and fired a laser, striking Vegeta's heart.'
    and got Dan Brown.

    As a bonus:
I wrote 'fkl jsdl;fkjflas ;jfl;djkslf jsafsdfd' and got Ernest Hemingway.

I think it just goes at random. :p I mean, I then went and typed:

Martin put his hands on the young woman's shoulders and smiled. “No,” he said with ernest, “my place is on the battlefield. If I'm to be Emperor, it's time I started acting like one.” He turned to Jauffre and Baurus. “Let the other Blades know it's time. The fight for Bruma has begun.” He turned back to her. “Lucia, I don't expect you to take orders from me, so I ask this of you as a friend. Will you join me one more time?”
    Lucia smiled. “Absolutely.”
Martin couldn't help but chuckle. “Then I shall see you in Bruma, friend.”

and got James Joyce. :p It's just a fun little thing to mess around with.

Except I tested that too. I posted the same chapter 3x after posting other things. The same chapter always got the same result. So I don't think it is random. Even if don't understand why it sees a except as simiar to an author.

Maybe Dan Brown is sort of the default at the end of the algorithm, if the program can't match the language up to a good writer. If X, then Good Writer A; If Y, then Good Writer B; if Z, then Good Writer C; ... Else Dan Brown.

I must really love writing about Mean!Harry Potter, 'cause I'm doing one in the program. >:] Let's see how I write like...

Harry slapped the young Scorpio Malfoy across the face, sending the boy reeling onto the floor. He glared at the rat-faced boy, shivering with fear and tears. “You WILL go to the Canadian boarding school, and I won't hear another word!” He turned on his heel and stormed off.
    “N-No. . .”
Harry stopped dead in his tracks, his anger coursing through his blood. He turned to see the mistake he called his adopted son stagger back to his feet, his glistening hazel eyes staring back. “I won't go! My...My father and mother told me I'd go to Hogwarts.”
Harry pulled his wand out. With a flick of his wrist, he sent the boy back to his knees, now clutching his stomach. “I will not be spoken to like that!” Harry roared, a vein pulsating in his temple. “I am Harry Potter, the Chosen One. The one who saved the world from Lord Voldemort himself. You WILL listen to me!”
“D-don't you know what you sound like?” one of the portraits asked in fright. “You sound just like Vernon Dursley!”
Harry seized a wine glass and chucked it at the portrait. “I am not my uncle!” he roared.

Wow, I write like J.K. Rowling. Interesting. :D

What's also interesting is that after changing all the names, I got Kurt Vonnegut.

Then I wrote "When you subtract from 90 + 9, then ÷ by 56, you'll get an answer that's ≤ 12 but ≥ 2, but be careful, sometimes you have to x 1338 and convert it to % before you √ it. Think you can do it? ", and got Cory Doctorow.

Margaret Atwood anyone? I entered four or five paragraphs from a chapter from my WIP. I've personally never heard of her.
Is this a good or bad (Dan Brown) thing?
