I just keep the actual notes in a standard composition book, it gives you some freedom (at least for me as someone who never had legible handwriting and so just gave up on "writing on the lines") to write more important ideas differently then other general musings or notes related to a story versus those entirely new. I can't really figure why, but with what I'm currently writing, I always feel I have so many back ups and saved copies that I couldn't lose everything, but my notes and my ideas I for some reason felt I needed to keep in a way that would ensure they would remain unchanged and safe.
What do you write in you daily carry note book? I have a small pocket size note book. I carry daily, and i try to write anything that might help with my book. Or even carry over ideas for next project. I write jokes or observations. I even write pieces of lyrics from songs. These ideas and jokes would be evenly sorted throughout my work. How about you? Would like some insights on what else can be annotated in my notes.
I don't use a notebook. I used to use one and it just became a graveyard of forgotten ideas. I've never done anything, or at least never completed anything, that I wrote down. If it helps you though, that's great!
I currently use a notebook for copywork. I don't like writing on my fiction books, so I copy whole chapters on my notebook. Then I make notations on it, commenting on why the author structured the sentence this way, why the author broke the sentence into two instead of one, what the themes and symbols and repetitions are, how the scene starts and ends, etc. It's my little exercise that I do everyday for 30 minutes.
Google drive is my notebook. I am behind my laptop/desktop all day, any day anyway so if I think of something, I can easily jot it down in google drive. I have a bunch of folders and documents ranging from "snippets" to "ideas for stories" containing small paragraphs introducing a key idea for a story. I also have folders for character ideas, plot ideas, world creation (sci fi and fantasy),... It's very organized
There are some things I started placing in my edc note book. They are any manorisms that people do. Kids especially. Like when my oldest daughter yells at little one. Or the way my wife drinks coffee for example. If i see some titles of songs I might use them. My favorite thing to use, are race horse names. Try it, good way to spark poetic thoughts. Just thought I should add that.
I use an app on my phone which I can write notes on, and have multiple notes with different titles. That's for when I'm out and about, observing certain things randomly and think "that'll be a cool idea." At home when I'm thinking of Ideas I use mind mapping software and word.
I'm at my computer most of the day, so I take most of my notes in Scrivener. When I'm away from my desk, my pocket notebook fills with just about anything: ideas for a story I'm working on, quotes from other writers, observations of other people, snatches of poetry, various lists (shopping lists, lists of things my characters are carrying, to-do lists, etc., various reminders for myself and my characters, phone numbers I'll probably never call, and so on.
