That's so cool! The artist did a great job, did they make the characters to your specifications? And did they turn out how you imagined?
Oh wow!?!?! It looks such a unique weapon! Will it be held in the hands or like a glove, like it could protect the hands at the same time?
Oh yeah. Well, except in this cae he didn't have to image. He had references. I have like over a hundred pieces of art on my DA. A lot of different artists working different characters from my world. http://andromon1217.deviantart.com/ If you are curious
Using such a weapon that makes you that close does need extra pre-cautions. So yes, the enclosure it to both protect the hands and act as a better grip so to make it more comfortable and lessen the chance of letting go/dropping it. Still a lot of hands-on work to do, so I gotta close the windows when I simulate the mechanics with it so I don't look like a dumbass :/
As a knife enthusiast and martial artist, I'd be more worried about accidentally stabbing myself on the spikes and hooks that point toward the user.
Art isn't ready yet. But the mere mention of the term knife enthusiast reminds me of this girl I have. Agatha. A special forces cop who is a knife enthusiast. Sje wears like 10 plus knifes on her body. Some are throwing. Some combat. She is know for applying such pressure with them that fights don't last too long. Like literally stabbing or throwing one and them drawinf a new one just to enhance the pressure! Epic?
In a hypothetical situation where I would need knives for combatives, I'd just carry one fixed-blade knife. I don't see why one would choose throwing knives over firearms.
Well. For one. World is magical. Knives are generally more effective as they are easier to augment. But even past that. Knives are quieter and relusable. So there are arguments in their favor.
Historically, the main problem with bladed weapons is that they are rather ineffective against armor made of the same material. That's why warhammers -impact weapons - were used to bring down armored knights. Ballistic weapons like firearms operate similarly, concentrating a lot of force into a small point.
The devil does hide in the details. I mean, yeah, your right on your terms and logic. But that is just the pure numbers. There is more to such thing than pure numbers. Or at least I think there is. I mean, like I said, quieter and reusable. That gives is vast superiority in a stealth centered mission. As in a mission focused on stealth, opponents armor is likely a irrevent point. Though, I suppose I can see how a special forces like cop may not seem like someone sent on stealth missions. But like I said. Magic! The fundemental way magic works reduces the effeciency of most projictile weapons actually. So, with magic becoming a domaniant force in the world of combat of my world. And magic styles preferring know projectile weapons. Blades have resurfaced as the domaniant form of weaponry. Now, I know I said she threw some knives, thing is. OPTIONS! lol. Sorry for all caps. I think there is a strong case for the concept of options. And, well, technically, even if she is a cop she is also special forces. I can see stealth being a part of her everyday work. Does that make sense?
Okay, scratch what I just said if you saw it. I thought you were talking about the piece on the left. Again, that was just my very first and very quick draft. I know there should be a hand guard right there to keep a barrier between them, .
In a stealth situation you'd probably still only need one knife. Against a single person, you wouldn't need multiple knives to throw, and even then, you shouldn't throw your knife. Against a group, throwing a knife defeats the purpose of stealth. Throw a knife and miss, and it's going to be pretty loud. Throw a knife at a person without instantly killing them, and they'll scream pretty loudly.
Oh yeah. I mean, I wasn't exactly disagreeing with you. Rather saying your view was a bit limited. I mean like. She isn't an octopus. I wasn't saying she wielded 8 knives at once. I said she choice to carry mutliple on her body. One could be taken, or dropped. Or heck, throwing one because she is fighting someone at close range and another man walks in. There are reasons. And while a gun may sound more effictive there, that isn't always the case was my point. I mean, in her case speficially. Guns are an ineffective weapon in her world, even if in that one situation a gun would be more effective then a knife in her world. The fact is, to use a gun, you need training. So she choice to detecticate her time to her preferred weapon. I mean, that isn't so wrong is it? lol. I would say just the fact she feels more comfortable with a knife is a perfectly sound reason to use it.
I suppose that is not an all unfair comparison. lol. Heck, my girl would probably take that as a compliment, if not for the whole... she is a cop thing. lol. I mean, I only brought it up because I thought you miht consider it badass. My only argumentive point is that in fantasy, the rules can be stretched and there are some legitament rules in even a real world scenerio that can be streched for the sake of this as a story point. Got to admit though, real or not. V is an amazing story, right? lol
Yeah, I've always preferred function over form. My experience and research with concept art has developed a utilitarian way of thinking.
Yeah, I can see that. I think that is the best part about my world. The existence of magic quite literally makes her style more functionable. I could explain why, if you are curious but that probably should shift to a PM to keep this thread on topic.
I made this based on the assumption that the mage academy is used to train military battlemages. Here's Michael in his 40s, after fighting in a couple of wars. Perhaps he should get a Kindle (no pun intended) to replace his spellbook.
Oh wow, your so fast at drawing these out! I love it! Its cool cause he is actually part of the Pyromancy House at School who specialise in Pyromancy and Robotics, kind of steampunk style as they use the power of fire to make them work! He looks amazing! Can you make him look younger? My books will only have them age 14 to 19, I'm going to be doing a book for each year and so at age 15 they have a massive battle which continues until age 19! Your work is amazing!
@Auger Sorry I just can't believe how cool you made him look! I forgot to say, I love his staff and the armour is super cool! The armour kind of reminds me of Japanese style armour! Also he does as with all Pyromancers in my book have a portable kindle that is like some Porta-coals that he can use anywhere
Ha! Yep!! Unfortunately they don't And without giving anything away, they do end up falling in love! (just not with each other lol)
Um, did you mean to quote that other post? It doesn't seem relevant to what you said. And don't worry, I understand. Statistically most guys aren't bi or gay so I'm used to it. In fiction, and in real life.
Your right, I didn't mean to quote that first one, not sure how I did that lol I have some friends that are Bi and or gay and I have no problem putting them in my book, I'm very open minded! I believe love can be found anywhere and can be represented in many ways. Sorry, I'm going off subject a bit lol
This is Arthur, who I drew the other week. I'm now practising my art daily alongside my writing so hopefully I'll get to Auger's level sometime...
