Harry: My last name is "Beaurenice". Henry Beaurenice at your service. Didn't Vanna mention that I was her father? Lets have a look at that staff now, shall we? Be careful, darling, I can just see Melody's face if she found out you were performing another world's magic. Vanna: Well, she was the overprotective single parent for fourteen years. Let's see... *Holds staff at arm's length* I order you to... Bring my kitten here! *A tiny black kitten with bright green eyes appears. Vanna hands the staff back to One and scoops her up eagerly* Everybody, meet Emerald, the best kitten in the world. I've had her since my birthday in February, and I love her so much. Elsie, maybe we could bring your puppy here, too! Elsie: *Eyes Emerald apprehensively* I don't think that's a good idea. Did I mention Vina was an Irish Wolfhound?
Val: Hello everyone. I am.. here, barely. Did anyone bring coffee? I'd kill for some about now. Jules: Sorry, there's no coffee. Actually the coffee pot is broken.. Val: What?! Jules: You broke it last week and said you would fix it, but never did.
Vanna: Hallo, you two! There can be a coffee machine in here if you want there to be. I'm Vanna, I'm fifteen years old and I go to St. Edith's Academy. It's lovely to meet you, welcome to the chatroom. Suppose you introduce yourselves. (I suppose the Rishnaran must be sick of my spiel by now.)
One: I could whip some up, along with some exotic honey that Arin seems to enjoy. Vanna, that staff can do so much more than that, mister Beaurenice, why don't you give it a try? Arin Hellant: Oh god, that was horrible New scars cover his arms and smoke seems to come off them. Those dragons did not like my presence there. Haven't had new scars in awhile, anyone know any healing magic? It would be very helpful, oh, there are new people, one looks a bit similar to Vanna and those two, were they here before?
Harry: I do know some good spells, Mr. Hellant. Allow me to make you a potion. One, if I were to handle your staff, what sort of spells did you have in mind? Vanna: Baby steps for me, really. I've only performed about five spells in my fifteen years of living. I didn't want to hurt anyone.
Arin Hellant: If you could, I would be very appreciative. Vanna, magic is not about baby steps, it's about testing your limits, if I had taken baby steps, I wouldn't have these scars and I would be using a staff like One. One: Yes, he likes to gloat about his skill in sorcery. Harry, if I may call you that, you could cast very powerful magic. This staff is infused with the energy of the spheres and can bend the very fabric of the world to your will. I have it toned down currently for certain unspoken reasons, but you could still summon large objects at will and cast combat magic at will. If you want, I'm sure Arin would duel you if you want to try it on him. Arin Hellant: Thanks for volunteering me One, I would duel you if you want. Do you?
Harry: No thank you. I wouldn't like to duel in front of my daughter and her friends. In fact, duelling was outlawed in our world in 1862. I shall see if I can summon a bookcase. *Holds out staff* I command you to produce a bookcase. There. Now we have some reading material in this chatroom. I'm sure it can be tailored to individual cases. Ah, Elsie's already perusing it. I can see you're fond of reading, Miss...? Elsie: Fox. And yes, that's how I spend most of my time, sir. Harry: I'm sure this beauty could more than manage a good, solid duel, but I prefer to keep magic for display purposes - which is not recommended by the government - light, mostly for entertainment, especially since I'm dealing with magic from another world. I'm not trying to be a spoilsport, but the wife'll kill me if I do anything that could possibly trouble our one and only. Vanna: Mum's very protective. Besides, I'm not supposed to be learning magic until I leave school, and possibly after university too. I'd really like to be a singer, to be honest. I'll leave the serious magic to Ophelia. No scars, please! Harry: Mr. Hellant, drink this. It's a painkiller, and it'll also speed up the healing process.
Arin Hellant: Thanks, bottoms up. Arin swings the bottle up and drains it. Whew, that's some pretty good stuff. I'm sorry if you misunderstood me, a duel isn't necessarily combat magic, though it usually is, we could deal with less traditional magic, like alchemy or even entertainment. Vanna, my scars are only because of my style of magic, unlike One who channels magic through a physical catalyst, I channel magic through my body, the magic leaves scars when I use it. We call it sorcery, it's very painful at first, but soon the pain from the spells goes away, the only reason I got more from the dragons is that I don't use magic used against dragons a lot. Arin starts rubbing the scars on his arms as the potion starts healing the raw skin left from his magic. One: Harry, try some more powerful magic, if it goes to out of control, Arin will be able to stop you from overextending yourself.
Harry: I'm terribly sorry, but I have no idea what exactly you would like me to do. I can also feel notes I'm supposed to be doing hanging over me. I'll let the younger generation have their fun, and I'm sure I'll be back once I've made some progress. Let me know if those two enjoyed their coffee, Vanna. Vanna: I will, Dad. Say hi to Mum for me! Sorry about that, he is a very busy man. Mum says he starts to feel guilty if he feels he hasn't got enough work done.
Arin Hellant: Don't worry about it, you said you've used magic before, what have you done? One: Yes, you father seems a powerful man, many lesser wizards have been consumed by this staff. What can you do?
Vanna: I can remember things. Last summer, I got kidnapped by a dark wizard who wanted me to be part of his political party. They put me to sleep with a potion, and when I came to, I was in a room, all tied up and really groggy. While I waited for the potion to wear off, I found a spell book and memorised a couple of combat spells, including a pretty nifty one that took away his powers for an hour or so, which allowed the government to take him into custody. The rest were pretty much just shooting things at him. My friend Ophelia's performed plenty of spells, she helped me beat that guy. Of course, there was also the Returning Spell. Ophelia: Enough about the mouldy Returning Spell.
Arin Hellant: Those sound far more advanced than the basics, most magic-users start out creating small lights or moving objects across a table. Combat spells don't come until they reach the Academy. The returning spell, sounds similar to my trans-dimensional magic, that's these scars here. I use them for most of my travels but sometimes I like to enjoy the countryside. Here, I'll show you. Some of the scars on Arin's arm flare with a sort of mist as a hole appears that is completely black, another one similar to it appears next to a cup. Arin sticks his hand through it and picks up the cup on the other side. That was harder than it should've been, could this room be combating my magic? One: I don't know why you leave the academy for those frivolous adventures of yours. I'm quite content with sitting in my study. This room doesn't seem to like your sorcery Arin, reminds me of the dark room you told me about. Arin Hellant: I would ask you not to bring that up again. Now you're touching a sensitive topic with me.
Val: Vanna, One, Thank you so much. I couldn't though. I don't know what got into me, whining like a child. But we're on a budget, and things like that are trifles. Good luck with your magic, I'm sure if you work hard you will achieve your goals. Unless life get's in the way, that is.
Vanna: That's fine. Mum was always a regular bear before she'd had her coffee! Suppose you introduce yourselves - although it sounds like you're leaving.
Arin Hellant: No need, Nat is it. Pleasure to meet you. The Rishnaran, One was seeing what people could do with her staff earlier, you seem to know a bit about magic. Come over, give it a try. One: I would let you, but only because I gave the others a fair shot. Arin has a tendency to believe all is his. Arin Hellant: I was a thief once you know. Long time ago, but the mindset will never leave you. Don't worry Vanna, I won't steal anything else from you.
The Rishnaran: I create the rules of magic in my domain, so I would say I have a fair understanding of magic.
Arin Hellant: If I told you, it would ruin the fun. It's nothing important I can tell you that much. One: If you think about looking to me for help, I can't give you any. The Rishnaran, would you like to try my staff? It is fairly straightforward for simpler spells.
Vanna: If it's my guitar... Jasmine: You love that thing like it's your first-born child! Vanna: It was my eleventh birthday present!
