Just the 2cents here of a guy on the sidelines doing nothing to help, but would it help if each section had a sub-mod that kept things up to par on the day to day?

I recommend anyone who has contributed in this thread.

Wow, I don't feel so bad about missing a couple days now. And I was all set to get back to work, too...

You forgot "writer's block" - I saw a lot of those threads.

This has been under consideration several times, but we have not yet decided to take that step. And we also have the aforementioned problems with the upper quarter of the forum when it comes to moderation (when I first got my mod powers I still only had normal member permissions for those fora).

However, seeing the interest in helping with this bucket project, maybe we should bring up the discussions again.

According to Wrey its to do with the set up of the nodes that the forum runs on - only super mods can do anything in the upper quartile... if it was possible I'd volunteer to help in a heart beat, but apparently it requires an act of god (that is a greater god than Wreybies... our lordly creator himself, Wrey is merely his prophet :D )

I totally agree with the notion that descriptions need to change. Insights and Inspiration is certainly one of the titles that needs some definition. Is this a subforum that deals with people sharing their sources of insights and inspiration, or is it the kind of place people should go if they're needing insight and inspiration, or a last-ditch resource for people who simply can't find any reason to write at all? Here's the definition as written on the site: Meant for high quality "sticky quality" posts that add value and insight into the writer's journey. Share writing tips, advice, motivation and inspiration, brainstorm, and other insights learned alone the way. Only Supporters, Senior Members, and Contributors can post in this forum and must have posts approved. Okay, sounds good ...but it's a pretty vague category as well. (BTW, 'alone' should probably be 'along?')

I think part of the problem is that the definitions of these sections are not clear in many cases, beyond the title. Starting with "General Writing." A new person on the forum is likely to dive straight in here with whatever is on their mind, because it's likely to 'generally' have something to do with writing. Here's the current submenu on that one: Need writing help? Discuss general creative writing tips and topics. Feel free to brainstorm ideas, share resources and discuss writing methods.

One of the interesting things that we could note (takes time of course) is if there's a pattern to where new people go to make their first post. Obviously it's not the Workshop, so where? Are there a couple of headings that seem to attract new people more than others?

If I learned anything working as a medical receptionist it's that people hear what they want to hear. Same with reading, I reckon. One or two words will stand out in a person's mind, and the rest of the words that are also included in the statement just get discarded. So the more distinct the definitions, the better, in my opinion.

I've asked Wrey, though I suspect he's still in sleepy land.

Let's put it on hold for a bit, yes? You've been simply smashing - all of you - in this little project, and I don't want to overburden the mods while I'm away.

When do you get back ? Just so we can plan our time effectively :D

(and definitely not because we are robbing your condo or anything ...)

Yes! E. g., the thread I recently started on listening to one's novel could/maybe ought to go there.

    If we had it.

That's hilarious, seeing that modest, deferential newbie post contrasted with all the fruit salad now reposing under your avatar.

I think I'd understand it better if you guys WERE robbing his condo! This has been really interesting, seeing the level of satisfaction some of you are taking from this project. The almost compulsive hunger to get back to it... I'm trying to figure out some way to use it for a character, but I really don't think I understand it well enough to make that possible!

I'm an aspie. I love things like this. Repetitive tasks involving categorisation: yes please! One of the main characters in my WIP is autistic, and he uses his autistic traits to help him. It's very rewarding to write.

I love reducing entropy. I watch jet washing videos on YouTube for fun... and there are plenty of them, so it isn't just me.

I just like organising and sorting stuff ... there is a sense of satisfaction in making a tangible difference (plus I already robbed his condo ... I was going to do the farm house as well but I got chased off by a very aggressive chicken)
