Oh man! I haven't posted in awhile I better write something using speech to text. I'm in the final chapters, and my book progressed in a way I didn't see coming, and it's been fun. My MC is finally getting the chance to shine on her own, deep within enemy territory and alone, at least for now. No Comforts of a palace, silk gowns, just her and her ability to adapt. Edit: Ooops! I forgot in the rewrite should we teamed up with an old adversary, but still she'll have her chance to shine.
I'm really terrible at sticking with 1 thing, haha! so I have multiple WIP.... 3 of which are my main ones (*main ones* because I write on each of them every week). Two of them are set within the same world. The first "book" in that world, I'm approaching 200 pages. You know the old adage, "its not done til its done"? Thats where I am with that one, haha! I have made and remade and REMADE outlines for it, and I have written various scenes for various parts trying to see which fits. Do I want to go the "dark route" were there is more pain and suffering before the light at the end of the tunnel? Do I want to take the "soft route" and show the character's vulnerable side? and depending on the route I choose, how will that effect whats to come....Stuff like that.... My sister says my writing process reminds her of playing SIMS -shrugs- The second "book" in that world, I started fairly recently. I'm coming up on page 60. That one, I've been sticking pretty close to the outline I've made for it. I haven't made any big changes to the story thats deviated from the outline *yet*. I think its because I'd already established the rules/laws of the world through hashing it out with the first "book" which I started almost 6 or 7 years ago my first year of undergrad (I know... took me that long just to get to page 200... but I had so many things going on with school that I couldn't devote enough time to writing what I wanted to write). I already know that this one will be a lot shorter than the first one. My third WIP is a bit more personal and that I started last week. On a different thread, I mentioned that one of my bosses suggested I write about bullying and my disability. So, I've started it. I've finished developing the characters and the plot. Its the first non sci-fi/fantasy/surreal project that I've given myself, and so, as my sister literally told me last night when I told her what I was writing, "we'll see where it goes."
I am currently on Chapter 2 Scene 2 (2.2) with 10,227 words. My MC and company have just found her ancestors great vault, where he hid millions in gold, which in her time is more like trillions. Also she found the last statuette to complete her ancestor's quest and his great sword, Champion's Bane, which as it's name implies kills Champions. the Ancestor was a sort of Anti-Hero. .
I wrote a few chapters but I have to scrap some of the scenes. But honestly, forever and always, whether I am writing or not, I am planning. This stage in the writing process never ends! I am always changing and adapting some of my ideas. I prioritize planning over actual writing. I am the kind of writer who wants to plan everything out before writing. I need to know what I am doing as I do it! Besides, I always end up scrapping pieces anyways. This mindset might not work for all writers, though.
Sneaking up on 50K words in The Long Road Back to Rome (49.5K) sequel to E&D. Suffering severe distractions from on-line Sudoku, but the bright side is that I now finish expert level consistently in under 15, record of 6:30. Which gives you an idea of the ratio of writing to Sudoku. Where is the self-discipline and focus of my youth? I need to map out my timeline so that everyone is where they should be at the start of Rome's war with Parthia in 114AD. Marcus and his Xiongnu friends look like they are about a year ahead of schedule, it is November of 112, and they are in Tajikistan, just six months from the eastern Parthian border. Fortunately I dated each chapter for my own personal reference, so making sure this works is manageable, but a pain that I have been avoiding. And tonight I have to read the final (?) draft of Ruby, @K McIntyre's second book, which she hopes to publish by summer.
I am enduring it as best I can. Just to add to the turmoil, had wind damage to house in March, and a massive water leak severely damaged my office late April.
That sword name reminds me of the Holy Hand Grenade from FO;NV (Idk why). Actually, it reminds me of all the named swords and guns I made in Fo4 too. They all had funny names attached to them, like the Power fist I named "Fisto" after a certain robot.... OT: I'm on Chapter five, currently. Been spending all my time with one WIP as I got tired of jumping from short stories, to poems, to my favorite WIP.
I"m not sure why it reminds you NV, it is my second favorite Fallout Game so i'm trying to think why, as for FO4 I love naming my guns, I usually associate it with the perk it provides (I can't remember the names without looking it up) . But anyways, I know what robot though. .
I think it has to do with the naming of the weapon, which, I know, is pretty normal throughout fiction. But NV is where I started to pay attention to it and Fo4 made it stand out (probably for the silly reasons). Speaking of, what did your character think about the sword she found? Was it silly to her? Or was it a deeply moving moment?
She thought the sword was beautiful. The Sword is an important weapon, which she plans to give to her father for his birthday, feeling that the King of their nation should have it. The Name is already known to her, and that her ancestor crafted the sword himself. through four years of being on her Ancestor's quest, she's sort of use to his off handed humor. and is one of the few people to know the emotions he kept inside such as this reflections on the death of his daughter a few days after birth.
something a little bit like The Marquee in NYC. But with a stage and four suspended dance cages. The theme of the club is Hell, (and it's called Dante's Inferno) but it's not a strip/sex club. The owner is young, and still finding his feet. He has an apartment upstairs that looks over the whole place, obviously he's the only one who knows where the entrance to it is - it's in the club.
I'm about two thirds of the way through my first chapter. I only started actually writing it last Thursday, and managed to knock out the prologue in one go. This first chapter is proving more arduous. There's a lot to unpack, and I'm hoping most of the other chapters don't end up nearly as long.
In my finished novel, I'm on page 67, pulling my kayak out of the lake while my MC spied me from the car's window.
I'm currently on my third rewrite of a dark fantasy novel...last go around I got to 20k words before starting over and this time I've spent a week getting to 600 words, been working on it for about two years not counting the many many years beforehand working on worldbuilding. At this rate, I should finish in 2030 or thereabout.
Somehow I misread your post and thought it took you two years to get to 600 words... now that would be bad! In any case, I don't understand your post. What's a "first third rewrite"? Do you mean you're rewriting the first say, 30% or so of your draft? But you say you've got 600 words...? And what do you mean "rewrite" when you only ever got to 20k before you scrapped it? That's barely a draft - that's just the beginning... I don't mean to be discouraging. Just genuinely not sure what you mean.
In my current story, I am...maybe halfway through, maybe more. It is hard to know, since I've been working on the first draft through a series of small-ish notebooks (those medium-sized Piccadilly notebooks that come in various colors). As far as page count goes, I am (based on the notebooks) nearly 500 pages through, but that will actually end up being maybe 200-250 typed, formatted pages. In terms of word count, well, since it is hand-written, I have no clear guesses. I've posted the first 12 chapters on FictionPress, and that is counting as 50k words, so I will assume that my total of 26 chapters so far might be more like 80k. Anyway, I know I am pretty darn far, and I know how the story will end, but I am still coming up with new scene ideas/new directions as I am going along. That doesn't even keep into consideration the editing I will be doing later, where I could remove and add scenes as appropriate.
Just finished the planning stage for part one of the book and am writing the first chapter. I've also done half of the second part, but am somewhat struggling to get through that. Which is why I decided to just start on part I until it makes more sense where to go from there.
I'm done. Just finished all the SPAG corrections, which there were surprisingly few. I'm not real sure what my next step is. I guess work up a cover letter and start querying, which seems way more daunting than actually writing the book. I found it no problem to crank out 2000-5000 words a day at times, especially if it's raining and I have nothing else pressing to do. But writing a query letter, sending them out seems like a task I almost don't want to do. But I want people to read it, so I'll do what I must.
