I feel your pain sort of. I have two young kids, and a wife that has so many dietary restrictions it's not even funny. So there are times I cook 4 different things for dinner. Although, the kids are in a spagettios and corn dogs phase so those aren't too much extra.

But on the flip side. At least the adult kids are up for visiting. I know some people that don't get to see their kids/grand kids except for holidays... maybe. As much as a hassle as it is, I imagine it is nice to see them.

When did people start cooking different meals for everyone in the house? When I was a kid, we either ate what we were given or went hungry.

Allergen-free foods come with a higher price, so sometimes it's cheaper to make separate meals than one big one, particularly where bread and convenience foods are involved.

Oh sure, if it's because of allergies that's different. I just got the impression that in some cases this was being done due to individual preferences.

Finally back to making Progress in my WIP... for some reason when ever I need to add characters, there is this hard stop that causes me to slug through and takes much longer than it should.

When I was a kid it was if you don't like what I fixed, fix yourself something. That's how I learned to cook. Anyway, with my kids they are not quite ready for that level of unsupervised control of the kitchen. Or perhaps I am not ready to let them have that much unsupervised control.

I have almost a whole chapter of my WIP rewritten as of right now. I know that doesn't seem like a lot, but writing has kinda been put on hold since Sunday, so I'm quite happy.
Monday I was freaking out too much to work on it, due to college algebra and my inability to do that.
Tuesday I got taken out of that class and put in intro statistics. I hope I do better there.
Guys, I'm serious. It'll be a joyful day in Glitter World when I walk out of my last math class for the last time. And I hope this is my last math class.

That is probably due to all the adult content they have to edit out of the show
before they dub it and release it over here. ;)

Started editing the first draft of my WIP a few days ago and I've finally come to the realization that editing it is pretty much a useless endeavor and a waste of my time. I'm going to end up completely rewriting the story from the ground up, only holding onto the barest of bones as guidance. 90% of the events that happened in the first draft are getting cut out, so I'd rather just start working on the second draft.

So, why is this in the happiness thread then, you ask?

I get to start working on the second draft! I'm super pumped about the new ideas that I'm implementing as well as the character changes. I feel it'll make a much more compelling story.

Yeah, I looked at an old draft of something I'm working on the other day and came to much the same conclusion: strip off the flesh down to barebones and build new body around that. It is revealing how much we grow as writers when we laugh at our earlier attempts that we thought were pretty good, written only a few months or even years ago.

It's Sunday morning and Animal House is on TV.

Yes, I know that film is beyond problematic, but I'm old and I'm going to enjoy it anyway.

This doesn't belong I the happiness thread, but I'm practicing positivity:

One week until Lost gets to meet my parents. I survived meeting his but mine don't really speak that much English. So we'll have a proper fika (I'm making champange and blueberry cupcakes) and awkwardly trying to communicate with each other.

I'm looking forward to the fika part, not the conversation.

Being completely positive: I'm getting Lost for an entire week! We're having fredagsmys, trying new (to him) Swedish candy, a cheap ass movie date and anything else we'll have time for after my working hours.

Less than a week now

See you said I was a pervert, and tried to deny it, but I knew that lost meeting your parents would involve a load of Fikaing :D

I got word that my lesson tomorrow has be rescheduled, and Mrs. A tells me that her office is taking the day off tomorrow as well, so tonight we're going to go out and get drunk!

Of course, we've got the day off because we should be smack in the center of a monster typhoon tomorrow afternoon, but meh*

Seriously, we live in a steel-framed apartment building whose base is something like 12 meters above sea level, it's a couple kilometers to the river, and twenty-odd klicks to the nearest coast. We'll be fine. In the event things do go sideways, Osaka has a thriving and vibrant underworld community who historically have been able to provide disaster relief without fear or favor far in advance of the national government. The yakuza will have our backs.

I was at IKEA today. Even though I got home late some proper "being lost in at IKEA for five hours and deciding you live there now" is always good for the soul. I got away with a lamp and a pillow for Lost. Plus smoothies!

Since this is an international forum and since Swedish isn't the most talked language I feel the need to say that fika doesn't mean the same in Swedish as in German. It's still a word the rest of the world should adopt. Like Smörgårdsbord! And Fredagsmys - the world needs more fredagsmys!

No, dear, it's not Swedish for orgy.

Do you want to know the Swedish word for orgy? It's orgie.

Plus orgies are so damn hard to have over the phone. We've tried. It failed and now we're back to eating crisps and watching bad movies.

Nah... more like a need a dozen or so new friends! I mean... how many people does an orgy imply?
