    Italicizing Ship Names

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Bone2pick, Feb 18, 2019.

When should I put a ship's name in italics? Every time it's mentioned? What about its informal name?

For instance, if a ship is named the Queen's Jewel, and its informal name is the Jewel, would the Jewel always need to be in italics?

There's three ships in my story, the Pandora, the Viola, and the Petit Rouge.

I'm pretty sure ship names are italicized in every case and utterance, no matter what. So yes, Jewel will need to be in italics.
