Be cautious of your quotes, folks. Things are very often misconstrued to fit narratives/clean things up. “My alma mater was books, a good library… I could spend the rest of my life reading, just satisfying my curiosity.” — Malcolm X What a great quote! Wise words for a cultured person to live by. Something personable and relatable to almost everyone. Well no, not exactly. What he actually said, verbatim, was: “I told the Englishman that my alma mater was books, a good library. Every time I catch a plane, I have with me a book that I want to read-and that’s a lot of books these days. If I weren’t out here every day battling the white man, I could spend the rest of my life reading, just satisfying my curiosity-because you can hardly mention anything I’m not curious about.” Oh dear, said the quotes people, that one bit in the middle might make some people a little uncomfortable. Better clean it up and cut that bit out so you can engrave it on some place uncontroversial and safe.
But the thing is, it doesn't really change the meaning of the quote, just adds more detail and depth to it (as well as fitting it on a bumper sticker). My favorite version of that was a needlepoint piece that said: "I have been walking here and there, roaming around the earth." -Job 2:2 Looks like a good traveller's saying, but it's Satan speaking.
Well known fact that in the first draft of Romeo and Juliet, Will actually wrote "Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou? -- you said you'd be home by six..."

"Find a guy who calls you beautiful instead of hot, who calls you back when you hang up on him, who will lie under the stars and listen to your heartbeat, or will stay awake just to watch you sleep...wait for the boy who kisses your forehead, who wants to show you off to the world when you're in sweats, who holds your hand in front of his friends, who thinks you're just as pretty without makeup on. One who is constantly reminding you of how much he cares and how lucky his is to have you. The one who turns to his friends and says, 'that's her.'." - Unknown
"To have a good enemy, choose a friend. He knows where to strike." - Diane De Poitiers, 1499-1566, Mistress of Henri II of France.
This is exactly why I trust no one and am at least slightly suspicious of everyone. Thank you for proving me right! ETA: “Keep your friends close, your enemies even closer.” – Sun Tzu
"When our eyes see our hands doing the work of our hearts, the circle of creation is completed inside us, the doors of our souls fly open and love steps forth to heal everything in sight." - Michael Bridge
"I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, 'Where's the self-help section?' She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose." "May the forces of evil become confused on the way to your house" "I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death." "One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor" ~ George Carlin
That reminds me of my favorite Irish toast: "May you be in Heaven a half an hour before the Devil knows you're dead."
