    I’ve never used it

I think I was in the zone for writing some poetry at the time, and wanted to record ideas on the go, but no sooner had it arrived I lost all interest in writing. I only buy these things for the sake of it. Once I get them o have no real use for them.

Beads ...mostly gemstone and glass. I've taken up a new hobby. It's very theraputic, stringin' dem beads, while I wait for the Brexit outcome to decide our future.

I don't know if this counts, but I found a digital calipers in my hobby bench that I have no memory of purchasing.

It’s good occupational therapy too, if you find yourself feeling a little arthritic. Keep those fingers nimble.

Well, so far I'm not arthritic. But I'm sure that's one of the pleasures I've still to look forward to.

Hardware blackouts are the worst! I once woke up naked and next to a band saw.

A really, really old edition of ‚The children of the new Forest’ by Frederick Marryat, published in 1848 (see spoiler). I‘m currently on vacation in Danmark (again) and one of my guilty pleasures is visiting the local second-hand bookshop. It‘s one of the rare occasions, when I totally ignore the good old saying ‚Don‘t judge a book by its cover.‘ On the contrary, when a book looks really, really old, has an ex libris or - even better- a handwritten dedication inside, I have to get it (as long as it‘s fiction), even if I neither know the author, nor have more than a very slight idea, what it’s about.

I don‘t know, I think I simply like the idea of a book which has a story of its own, besides the story it contains.

Just got these shoes back today! I'm still blown away by how great they look. One of my favorite albums by one of my favorite bands; TTNG from the UK. She did an incredible job. You can follow her on Instagram @laurendoestats

Brought a ring this week and some roses. On the way to buy breakfast now. Hungry.

    Lonnie shopping.

Got a huge discount at the tyre shop.
    - Been booked in for a month.
    - Tyres were already on special (which simply means not the usual overpriced), but back then he dropped $10 off each tyre for no reason.
    - I rock up yesterday and inform him I'll grab a standard wheel alignment instead of the modified one, as he was unable to give me a set quote on the latter as he didn't now how long it'd take. I may have ended up paying $150 for one, and I have no intention of doing so, seeing as the now retired suspension guy can do a modified one in 40mins.

    - I set off to grab some stuff.
    - Got one faulty coffee mug replaced, the other one is being replaced by the distributor, should arrive in a week or so. Snagged 300g each of two types of beans.

    - Stocked up on one specifc artificial drug; had to go to different chemists and pay cash as all chemists will only sell you one pack. Enjoyed the walk.
    - Saw an actual hippy: an old bloke with white hair and long white beard who wouldn't look out of place in Hobbiton, no exaggerating. He nodded at me in recognition, as I had on my fav ochre coloured cargos and thick dark grey knitted wool jumper and no shoes.

    - Returned to the tyre shop; me ute was done a few minutes later.
    - He then said the tyres are now on the three for four deal, thus the total cost of tyres, wheel alignment and tyre insurance is less that the original quote.
    - Thanked him for the quality service and above and beyond customer care.
    - Excellent timing too as I was much shorter this week than expected.

    - Hit the Nut n Bolt shop for some wood lug things you screw into the wood then you can screw a bolt into that.
    - Bloke allowed me to accompany him behind the counter so see the varieties as I had no idea what sizes and lengths I required.
    - Snagged about a dozen of two sizes, with accompanying wingnuts n bolts for cheap as free.

    - Found a home brew shop and he was most knowledgeable and helpful; grabbed 250g each of Sodium and Cleaner, as Sodium sanitizes only, it can't clean off mold. He agreed that adding my food grade baking soda will help with the cleaning.

    - Hit Bunnings to see about a few more different sized stainless rulers (for my measuring tool projects) and a new hand saw. Found a decent priced one with a quality handle, but during discussion, he said they'll replace the Spear & Jackson with the disintergrated handle, even though it's about 4 years old; and he dropped some knowledge on circular sanding pads to help me with my future band and circular sanding machine projects.

I went on a pencil shopping spree...

I love a pencil for everyday simple writing (notes, shopping lists, that kinds of stuff).

I live in Germany, so I have strong bias towards German made pencils – Faber-Castell or Staedtler – but I recently heard a lot of people praising Japanese pencils. I found a good deal on a box of Tombow Mono 100.

You know the trope "Katanas are always better"? That's what I feel what these pencils are. Katanas. They're very very nice, no doubt about it. But they're not necessarily better than the German ones. They're different, which mostly means their grade is softer than the same grade on a German pencil, in particular Faber-Castell, which run quite harder than others. If you get a soft(er) German pencil, you'll get about the same feel (for me who's mostly writing. If you're a painting/drawing artist, you may feel different.)

I also shopped around for all kind of other things. I found my new favorite pencil. It's a clutch pencil. Just a tube with a simple clutch that holds a 2mm (or 3.15mm) diameter graphite lead. Essentially a pencil with exchangeable lead. I grabbed the simple Faber-Castell ones, and fell in love. Heavier than a normal wood pencil, but nice and solid.

Books, books and more books. It's a tad disheartening to see so many books in the bargain section (not even a bin), but c'est la vie.

Also brought my father a watch for the holidays. I don't personally care for the holiday and Christmas music makes my ears bleed unless I had a drink, but Dad does, so gifted he will be. Misses gift is being made.....can't say what it is. Bad luck. Excuses are nice.

Woke up this morning and felt like paying off the car loan.

    So that's what I did.

Was slightly hoping it would be more eventful than it was, but oh well.

    Sounds so nice.
When I used to sketch, some 30 years ago, I too would enjoy finding the perfect pencils, and then enjoy the sensations of pencil on paper as I'd spend hours crafting my sketches; mainly machines, sci-fi & cars mainly.

Odd, I love nature, always have, still do, but artwork is always of the man-made variety.
Then later, as I inadvertently got into writing, life became even more wonderful when Gel pens were invented, thus I'd spend at least an hour testing to find the one that felt the best in hand and rolled a certain way on paper.

My journaling has always been pen and paper, but emails, articles and my book, has always been with keyboard.

I think one reason I have a love for writing instruments is back in high school, and this was after missing two weeks due to a nasty hispeed fall and slide over fine gravel in the school grounds, I won Dux of my class, thus was awarded a Scheaffer matching pen and mechanical pencil set in a fancy box with blue felt inside.

Still have the pen saved in me glory box, but lost the pencil somehow and the case fell apart a long time ago.

And as I reminisce, I just recalled another connection to writing instruments.
This is way back in my first days of school, grade one or two, the time when primary kids weren't allowed to use pens.

My fav toy at home was a cheap ballpoint pen; it's external hexagonal design captivated me and I'd spend hours imagining it as a submarine, the clip of the cap being the bridge, and I'd have underwater adventures throughout our home when alone.

I buy books so regularly that the "recently" modifier cannot apply.

Corollary: One can have not enough shelves...

Which brand? Some of these are okay. Others are completely flavorless fire.

Mrs. Renfro's. They stopped making my default go-to Salsa, so I had to settle. Never had this brand before.

I tend to think Renfro's is a little lacking flavor wise, but maybe you'll like it.
