I'm sorry, I can't agree. He went into the Alaskan wilderness wildly unprepared and fell victim to the waterfall of mistakes that occur when one blindly waltzes down a mountain. Sure, maybe his mental and spiritual discoveries were ground breaking in their own right, but he didn't give nature the respect it deserves. It's callous and indifferent to an individual's existence. I think Mccandless needed to read a bit more Naturalism before he trekked off to such a difficult area to survive in, or at least opened a fucking local wildlife and edible flora manual.
I understand your viewpoint and it's probably more grounded than mine, but I'd just like to point out that Krakauer checked the edible flora and fauna manuals of the time and the potato seeds that killed McCandless weren't listed as dangerous. Anyway, before two mods end up in the Thunderdome Debate Room...
Yeah, I'm looking around and apparently there is a possibility I'm infected and have the digestive symptoms but none of the respiratory ones. And yes, this is a bad time to quit smoking, but also the best.
I'm fairly sure my physique, at least around the middle, looks more than a little bit like Blaster's at the moment.
It`s progress but still. The awareness campaigns have been great but I think we need to pivot to understanding at some point. How bout we all just agree to move out to Utah or somewhere and start a big commune?
I think somebody beat us to that state and idea by a couple hundred years or so. Spoiler I love LDS folks. I don't share their beliefs, but I've never had a negative interaction with one personally. My buddies and I were wandering around in Waikiki one night when somebody or other had forecast the End of the World. We ran into a couple of LDS missionaries, had a laugh over our continued existence. They asked if we'd like to hear more about their faith, we suggested doing it over a couple of beers, everyone involved chuckled and parted as single-serving friends.
All of the gyms are closed. But my gym is still charging me a membership fee. When i asked if they could suspend/put the membership on hold (like every other gym) until they open up again because i cant use the gym services, they said YES they can do this for me BUT it would cost $15/mo Granted, its less than the full membership but WHY AM I PAYING FOR SERVICES I CANT USE AND WHY AM I PAYING TO SUSPEND MY MEMBERSHIP?????
Release your inner Karen and talk to the manager, then if you don't get your way, threaten to sue. Doesn't matter if you have a case or not, the cost of them having to respond to a suit will likely cost more than they'd lose by just giving you what you want.
I distinctly remember an episode from Rocko's Modern Life called Fly Burger where a tv ad came on and it said "if you're not happy, just sue!" (weird, the random things you remember from your childhood. I was like 6...)
Just cut the arse'oles off at the source and cancel the Direct Debit / Standing Order with your bank.
If it were services you just didn't bother taking advantage of, then yes, I'd say it was undeserved, but given it's services they cannot or will not provide and are unwilling to come to a more amicable arrangement, then I'd say that's somewhat deserved.
Why not quit altogether? They'll probably be desperate for members when they open up again. Different situation, but I have kept my YMCA membership active even though the gym is closed. They use the money for a lot of community services, and I want to do my part, both for that and so that they will be around when this settles down. But that's my choice.
I kind of agree, though I would admire him more if he'd been better prepared. And looking back at my younger days there are some things I did that I now look at and think "What the hell was I thinking?" And you make a good point, Iain, if he had survived it would not be viewed as a tragedy but as an adventure.
And this is my issue with contracts. I have a similar scenario with Vodafone. I'm stuck in a contract being charged for a service I don't receive. I can't get out of it, because they don't do anything. My only defence so far is to keep my available money in my account just under what they say I owe. I keep the rest in digital wallets which only I can access.
I must confess...... I've only read a few of your posts... I'm new at this... looking to connect with songwriters and other poetic, creative people... hope we can encourage eachother... Keep Trying.. Keep Going.. God Bless. ... Dustin
Hi Dustin. The best way to make that connection is to visit our Workshop and do some critiques in the sections that attract you. Songwriting/poetry, etc. The people who put their work up for feedback SO appreciate it if you can give them some. They will remember you, and you'll start making friends here. And when it comes time (after 14 days of membership, 20 posts and two critiques) for you to put a piece of your own work 'out there' for our members to look at, then they will already know something about you. I'm one of the forum moderators, and I'd like to welcome you to the forum. Please read our New Member Quick Start and our Forum Rules to get you started. If you have any problems, don't hesitate to start a conversation with me or one of my fellow moderators, and we'll do our best to help. Hope to see you around the threads.
*sigh* I've been cracking with work when I was pointed out that I was told it was an inset day. Of course, according to zoom the rooms are passworded and no sign of a password... I can't do my part if I can't get in in the first place...
