Whereabout did you grow up? I grew up near DC too. My one random day off in HS was September 12, 2001. And the 11th ended up being a half day. Junior year of HS.

Ah, if we're going that far back... We had that day off too, as well as a day or 2 during the DC Sniper man hunt i believe.
My elementary school was in NW near the embassies and the National Cathedral.
My HS was near the Capital building.

Ah, yes, the sniper...they cancelled sporting events for that one but we didn't have any days off. I was a little further out, in Montgomery County MD.

    That Embarrassing Moment When:
You look up random countries and see that countries that either just survived coups (i.e, Myanmar) or in the throes of chaotic war (i.e., Syria and Yemen) or are recovering from the scars of genocide (i.e., Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia states) are doing a damn better job at handling the COVID-19 Pandemic than your own country.

That moment when a t-shirt and a pair of jeans arent "dressy/professional" enough, so you throw on a pair of oxford heels and call it a day....

That moment when you spend all day researching the perfect timeline software, only to realise it would be neater and simpler to just do it in Excel.

the moment when you have your desk and writing area just as you like it, you have a good handle on Scivener and a solid idea for a story, the house is quiet and all is ready, and you . . . just . . . can't . . . quite . . . get started. And you sip a coffee and . . . .

I just watched the trailer for the movie Finding You (2021), a romcom from a "beloved" novel (their words, not mine, because I have no idea what novel this is) . . . I am not a dramatic person, but this was one of those moments where I felt like shooting myself.

The moment when you learn that even a SLIGHTLY pulled groin muscle is something you should be really careful with.

It felt like it was better. I went for a walk. It doesn't feel like it's better any more.

I had hernia surgery in my groin area on Tuesday. Not the same thing, but you quickly discover how many parts of the body and locusts of motion are routed through the groin.
