I don't know if it is so much so cooking, but I'm 'making' a nice, fresh kale salad tonight. Kale (naturally), a little spinach, carrots, chopped onion, dried cranberries...and I cheated on the dressing by using my mom's special lemon sort of dressing she let me take from home. Super good.
I was going to make ramen, but then decided to have spicy peanut noodles with edamame. I also had some half slices of seitan.
A float - grape soda with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Though Iain's cow looks tasty too. Purple burgers!
Chicken fajitas and refried beans. Because, you know, Cinco de Mayo. Funny thing is that I totally forgot that's what day it is until I came in to sub teach Spanish this morning and was writing my name and the date on the board. I always do it in whatever language I'm teaching, if that's what I'm in for, and I thought, hey, what? So chicken fajitas it was. With local beer (Yuengling) because I don't have any Mexican cerveza.
Brunch - smoked haddock, poached egg, green beans. Egg poached in the same pan as the beans, haddock microwaved straight from the freezer on the plate - minimum washing up, maximum flavour (c:
I’m going to knock up a spag bol this weekend, but not with spaghetti because it’s a pain to cook and messy to eat. I’m going to use a small pasta instead, maybe orzo. Minced beef, onions, mushrooms, garlic, slug of ketchup and a handful of grated cheese.
the importance of the comma - in particular, not putting one after slug (c: Orzo is for fortifying soups and casseroles really, you'd need a lot of it to make a pasta dish, and if you try to cook a lot of it you will need to stir it constantly to stop it sticking and burning! If you want something small use something like orecchiette or go German with spaetzle. ETA - am at my old lady's house so made a chicken chasseur (with broccoli and new potatoes...), and a mulligatawny soup. Don't know why I bother really - she can't taste anything - but as she's managed to live for nearly a century, I suppose I should make the effort...
Nah, it was a joke on Home Improvement about shrinking a dowel in the microwave. Al was the one who said sprinkle a little cheese on top, and you'll have a nice oakaroni and cheese.
Not what I'm cooking for dinner, but what I'm never cooking again for dinner. I grew up on powdered instant mashed potatoes. Then fifteen or so years ago I started making them from scratch for special occasions because I couldn't find them here. A few weeks ago I found the sacks of powdered potato stuff, followed the directions to the ml, and.... Ugh... Nope, I'll keep peeling, chopping boiling mixing and have something that doesn't taste like wallpaper paste, thank you.
New book new recipe... Vindaloo pork...which is tumeric.onions.chilli and malt vinegar....never again....
