Only what you're willing to pay for gloves. Or you could just do a bit of research into the different materials they make them out of.
My dad, who was in the Army during WW2 used to tell me that you can always tell an ex-Marine, you just can't tell them very much. He frequently said I'd make a great Marine. I proved him wrong, by joining the US Air Force. He also used to tell me that the Air Force is the only branch of service where the officers go off to fight while the enlisted people stayed behind. He was wrong about that as well. I wasn't a particularly good Airman either!
When all my grandkids are around, being loud, cute, and needy. Then I go into the bathroom all by myself, and. . . Quiet. Bliss!
When I was at language school they told us Marines that we'd all be issued Air Force girlfriends. The joke was apparently the same in the female side of the zoomie barracks.
Honestly Nicakado Avocado's meltdowns. Please don't look him up, I'm embarrassed enough as is. Chapstick. I have 34 different kinds. Painting things I see. My violin. I love metal covers of songs from the 80's.
Cuddling a puppy. I know it's not really inexplicable, but the effect is so enormous that I think it's noteworthy. Our neighbour brought his foster puppy today. He handed it to me over the fence, and I had precious minutes with this sweet little ball of fur. He will move into his final home the day after tomorrow. While writing this, another thing comes to my mind. When you wake up lying side by side with your dog, and he presses his back against yours, snoring and puffing contentiously. To sum this up: Dogs make me happy no matter what.
Getting to see my best friend of almost 30 years. She has two kids now and I got to hold her almost five month old son for pretty much the whole time they were visiting. It's a level of contentment I don't know how to describe, because even though her two year old was chaos incarnate, it was so damn nice to have them in my house.
Created a music playlist on iTunes for this summer that consists of my favourite movie soundtracks and film scores - only the best tracks. These are film scores that are so perfect for the story, characters, era, imagery and atmosphere of each film - you couldn't imagine any other music being right for that film. A match-made-in-heaven between the film and the soundtrack composer who completely 'got it'. Divinely inspired. A playlist for dreaming about places, lives, emotions... Does anyone else here divide music into seasons i.e., hot-weather track vs. cold? I have tracks that seem right for summer, others for autumn, winter, and spring!
I have the same feeling about dogs, and also cats. Just seeing one makes me happy. Wish I could spend my life indulging and pampering them - and indeed every other animal! I never get tired of looking at their faces. If there are angels they should be in dog and cat form.
Not really, except that I have made a CD called Season of the Witch with music that evokes the feelings either of Autumn or of Halloween.
My composter. Put in orange and banana peels, coffee grounds, and the like, and voila, rich dark dirt that helps grow stuff. Real circle-of-life experience, with almost no labor.
In a similar vein, I love the smell of chemical fertilizer. Someone had used some along the fields I drive by on the way home and since it wasn't brimstone hot out, I had the windows down and got a big ol' sniff of it.
Guess that depends on the type. I used to bicycle past a plant that used ammonia and that tended to sicken me. But at the same time I used to love the smell of automotive gasoline.
Ooo, agricultural smells. My all-time favorite is the roasted, toasted scent from a cottonseed processing plant. Haven't thought of that in years.
