I’m very tempted by this but it’s almost twenty quid! It does stand... sit at 23cm, though, so quite the size. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nemesis-Now-figurine-ornament-Darkness/dp/B01EJXZ5JO/ref=gp_aw_ybh_a_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=D706ZBBAWB5YN3NHM3BA
"Do you know what this is?" The look on the bad guys face when he said it Didn't he say espresso machine first?
There was a guy on the market today selling old coins. I bought these three for £1. I think we win at coin stamping
Its a farthing... back when they were legal tender before decimalization they were worth 1/4 of an old British penny... its an old one though, the more common type (post 1937) have a wren on them while Britania was commonly found on the penny Incidentally the reason we win at durability is that after 1860 farthings were minted in bronze and are thus significantly hard wearing than most other coins
I want it. It looks nice. I actually have very little European coins, so I would certainly like to add in that regard.
They arent worth much,... you can probably get one in ebay for a dollar or so (the uncirculated ones in good condition of which there are only a few are more obviously) .. more info here https://costlycoins.co.uk/how-much-is-a-farthing-worth/ one here for a few dollars https://www.ebay.com/itm/304021134967?hash=item46c9125e77:g:KrkAAOSwqJxgugYv You'd probably like the thruppeny bit as well - a weird straight sided coin which was once 3 old pence... because 3 is considered a lucky number in the Uk a lot of them were converted into pendants especially by soldiers going off to war for good luck charms (Incidentally Thrupenny bit is rhyming slang for tits... you don''t hear it much any more but in the circa 1940s it was pretty common as in 'i'd like to get my mitts on her thruppenies)
Yes, a farthing as you’ve already been informed, dated 1917. It’s valued at around 30p according to a website I found. Like moose says, you should be able to pick them up for little more than postage costs. As for the thruppenny bit, the same guy had a biscuit tin full of them. I have one from a previous buy and as soon as I can get access to a drill I’ll be putting a hole at the edge and putting it on my bunch of keys.
What I tried to buy . . . . Went into the local REI (Recreational Equipment Inc., upscale outdoor supplies) store and asked where they keep the canteens. You know, the water container on a strap that one takes along on a hike. May as well have asked to buy a slide rule. Apparently no one uses them now, but rather various plastic water bottles or collapsible thingies attached to a belt with a carabiner, or uses a backpack attachment. The guy said maybe I should try an army surplus store or his grandfather's attic. Okay he didn't say the last part but he implied it. Geez. Stop doing outside stuff for a couple decades, and the whole world changes. And not for the better, IMHO.
Yes, no one uses canteens anymore, but they still have like thermos' or I suggest buying a large water bottle like a hydro-flask which come in various sizes. Let's face it, Gen Z has changed things for the most part, but it's not far to say it hasn't changed for the better. The world was never good to begin with.
Military surplus is the best. Canteen's from the military are alright as long as they are metal. The plastic ones they issued us made the water taste rancid. But when you're frying out in the desert hills of Pendleton, it tastes exquisite anyways. I used to buy all kinds of crap from military surplus. There used to be wild stuff in there, like decommissioned bazookas. I just found it was the most economical place to buy rifle rounds and hunting camouflage.
And no one throws away a perfectly good canteen. Even grandma after grandpa dies. She sticks it in the attic. If grannie put plastic water bottles in the attic, she'd be on a 'hoarders' TV Show, or in the nursing home.
The only aspect of this that was out-dated, was your use of the high street. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Latinaric-Portable-Stainless-Military-Canteen/dp/B01LSMRML8/ref=mp_s_a_1_16?dchild=1&keywords=outdoor+metal+canteen+with+belt+strap&qid=1627157524&sr=8-16
What, pray tell, is "the high street"? A British term? BTW, you forgot to include your Amazon password.
Main street? I dunno. A street with shops. I had to have my amazon password surgically removed from my memory to save me from myself.
Well, now I'm wondering what Spanglish breakfast tea would taste like. I picked up some new clothes today. Nothing fancy, just tasteful shirts and pants for a casual office.
