    Hello,
I read sci-fi/fantasy to get lost in and a lot of technical manuals due to my work. I want to learn and am willing to help where I can. I have started a short story, and am learning the basics such as plot structure, character development including dialogue and world building.

I am in industrial maintenance and do fabrication, I know how things work and how to fix, repair or modify to better fit the need. I may be able to help on technical questions.

    See you around the boards

Welcome to the forum, and that's great to offer your help and specialised expertise! I'm sure somebody will take you up on that.

I, too, am a sci-fi fan (although I write historical fiction) and am just finishing reading The Expanse series by James S A Corey, which I'm really enjoying. What kind of sci-fi do you like to read? Do you have any sci-fi writer 'heroes?'

    Thanks for the welcome @petra4
@jannert I have been rereading some old favorites, Dragonriders of pern books by Ann Mccaffery I have always liked her, I will read crystal singer trilogy again at some point. Most recent I picked up The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen R. Donaldson. I know I liked the series the first time through but I seem not as caught up into the first book as I had when I was younger, so I think I am going to try and find out why by looking at the writing more than the reading if that makes sense.

Dragonriders and Covenant? That's taking me back to my misspent youth...
