Anyways, hi! I’m Josephine Duke, and I am a 21 year old black autistic woman from the Pacific Northwest who enjoys writing historical fiction from the perspective of people with marginalized aspects to them. I also enjoy hard science fiction, and as it can be inferred from my previous post, xenofiction. Ironically, my main project at the moment (AKA my NaNo project), is not any of the above, since it is a thriller set in the early 2000s. I have no idea if that is contemporary or historical.
You could say that, though as someone who only has a basic understanding of Swedish, it's a bit hard for me to adjust. But I've never visited the states, so I might be wrong. (sorry, I always take a long time to reply)
Hi, that sounds really awesome! I really like going back to the old stories that I used to write when I was a kid and "modernizing" them to suit my current worldview. If you still remember the tales you used to come up with when you were 10, coming back to them and writing them with your newfound experiences might help you create a true one-of-a-kind literary work!
I am a 50-something nurse from Western Washington and am currently writing a novel (in nanowrimo too) my MC is inspired by what I do, as there is so much to dig into in the world of health care. I mix in elements of magic as well. I am looking forward to meeting new people here and hopefully getting some input and guidance on my writings.
I'm Rafael. Have been making screenplays to a few games and my ambitious dream is to build a world where things that we thought as myths, are a reality. Not a native English speaker but still try hard to write everything in English. Which means tons of work for others reading my scripts!
Greetings all! I'm 27, from Texas, and love writing supernatural romances and gothic fiction. Apart from writing, I also do digital illustration. Both serve as a way to communicate vivid images and ideas that can become frustrating if left unexpressed. I'm very excited to settle into a smaller community like this, rather than joining a more populated site. This forum seems very conducive to creativity and honest critique. To anyone reading: Have a lovely day!
Welcome! What's your favorite Gothic fiction? I'm just finishing an MA with Gothic fiction as a specialization, so I take quite a bit of interest in such things!
My go to answer has and always will be Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. I've been in love with that story since early childhood. However I recently read Fledgling by Octavia Butler and loved it. Stories of self-discovery are always fascinating, and the mystery surrounding the MC is so engaging. Once my obsessive editing has lulled I intend on reading more of her work. Her writing asks a lot of interesting questions about race, class, and society as a whole. And framing those questions with a supernatural element is the most memorable way to do it, honestly!
Shelley is one of the big five for Gothic traditions, so it makes sense. I haven't gotten to Butler, but I have heard of her on multiple occassions. You being yet another recommender pushes Butler's work a little farther up my backlog of books to read!
Hello everyone! I am 38, happily single (always looking for friends to talk to/hang out with) and my specialty is writing prose. I mostly write fantasy, science fiction and comedy stories. I'm trying to learn writing scripts for comics, and until now I been writing short short stories (under 50 pages)
I'm a 36yo white married female from California. I am attempting to write stories related to aging issues, grief, and loss. I have an idea for a novel that I would like to write based on my journals throughout my life and journals of a deceased family member of mine. Excited about being in a creative process again.
Hi Josephine Duke.. I also write historical fiction about people that have been set aside out of the popular historic drama. I like putting my character in the midst of things to tell the true story as I know it. The research is really hard as little is written about the subject. I also struggle with timeline. It is so bad in my current WIP I had to put a disclaimer that it is loosely based on… yad yad yada... Anyway, welcome to the forum.
hi! I'm Sam, a teenage enby who likes to write, I suppose Y/A fiction. My favorite type of story to write would be one about groups on adventures as opposed to characters adventuring on their own. Or just whatever I feel like.
Hello fellow writers! I'm very new to writing, I'm a 23yr old female. I'm currently working on a Female protagonist, with two supporting males. It's romance, fantasy/horror, and drama based. The age range is like 20-25. Something I'm familiar with. I also do poetry. I'm planning on working on other genres too. I really dislike history, I love reading fantasy books.
Welcome to everyone, I think it's awesome the wide variety of people we have, and their interests. Looking forward to getting drawn into some different genres than I usually read.
Hello Hello! I'm Jaxx, I'm 16 and still in high school. I write mostly fantasy and just fiction in general. I like to write poetry and find anything and everything my muse. I look up to many different young adult fiction authors, but my all-time favorite writer is Stephen King. Sounds like a cliche, but I enjoy his writing style and I'm a sucker for a good horror story.
I am a 67 year old single female from a Maritime province, in Canada, who has just started writing fanfiction. My first effort, which has yet to be published on the appropriate site, came as a result of wanting to write something entertaining but meaningful with a view to highlighting social issues as well (I have a BA in Sociology). I have incorporated reputable research into my characters' situations (as opposed to just making things up when there are facts available). I came upon this site by accident in trying to research a plausible plot resolution and am thrilled that I was fortunate to find it. I have read some of the articles here and am so impressed and very humbled to be able to communicate with so many talented writers!
50-something married from Washington State. writing a novel, and like Sharond, I am doing quite a bit of research into it. It gets me sidetracked but I love it. Yay for more knowledge
