Most would call it apocalyptic because the world gets zapped with high altitude EMPs, but I hesitate to label it sci-fi because nothing happens that violates the known laws of physics.

Thanks Raven. Anything you can offer will be well received but my preference is to receive both alpha and beta feedback using the questions posted in my article at... https://www.writingforums.org/threads/alpha-and-beta-readers.171587/
Let me know what format you'd prefer, and I'll upload the first chapter to my website so you can download it.

A book doesn't need to have anything that defies physics to be considered Sci-Fi. To me it's just how much emphasis there is on the science/technology to the story.

'A Canticle for Leibowitz' is considered Sci-Fi but I don't think it has much if anything that defies the laws of physics (could be wrong though). But I agree that the lines and overlap between straight Sci-Fi and speculative fiction can be blurred.

I'd be happy to take a look.

If a novel has elements that would break the laws of physics, like magic spells or superpowers, it would be classified as 'fantasy'. Scientific elements or pseudo-scientific elements that are not based on any actual science, like faster than light speed travel or teleportation, would be Science Fiction.

He may have disabled the option from displaying on his profile. But I think you can start a conversation with anyone, you just have to type their username in the participant box.
