Hi, my name is Andrew, and I have just joined. I Had a car accident in May 2004 and became a tetraplegic, paralysed from the neck down. I have always enjoyed writing from a young age. Since my accident, I have begun writing using speech recognition because I cannot use my hands. I have undergone much research on the subject in the last few years. Andrew (a.k.a. Heathside Boy)
Welcome, Andrew! So sorry to hear about your accident...I have tried a few speech recognition software apps on my phone....I was interested in the idea of dictation while commuting to work...however I found them rather sketchy, especially if you write fantasy...
Hi Joe, how long ago was it that you used speech recognition? I use Dragon Professional Group the latest software of its kind and it is three times faster than typing. Agreed, there is somewhat of a learning curve but in my case, I had no option. There is also a website called ‘KnowBrainer’ where you can ask questions about how to use it. That’s where I started. You can certainly write in any genre you wish with ease once you have mastered it. Speech recognition is not only for the disabled but there are versions for the legal and medical professions with specialised words in the vocabulary for them. The great thing with speech recognition is that as long as you have pronounced the word right, they are never spelt wrong. Anyway, I look forward to spending a bit of time here learning and asking questions. Pleased to meet you, Joe.
It was a while ago. I dictated to it without stopping and it turned out a product that while humorous, was not anything close to what I was intending it to say.
