I came across Melanie Safka's song "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)" and was struck dumb by this couplet: "We were so close, there was no room We bled inside each other's wounds." She wrote that song after seeing the audience at Woodstock. The couplet pretty much sums up how wounded we all were, and how we tried to heal each other in our pain, and how that effort brought us closer for a little while.
Yeah, it was quite the thing to make Forest out to be as uneducated a hick as ever led a cavalry charge. He suffered some serious personal shortcomings but was a brilliant military man.
Recently saw this line from a song, Witch Hunt, by the Canadian band Rush. Kinda relevant right now. "They say there are strangers, who threaten us In our immigrants and infidels They say there is strangeness, too dangerous In our theatres and bookstore shelves That those who know what’s best for us Must rise and save us from ourselves" Maybe I should go over to confessions and admit I am a fan.
"If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament." Popularized by Gloria Steinem and Florynce Kennedy, both of whom gave credit to an elderly Irish female taxi driver.
"Our government is bold enough to force you to have a child, but too weak to insure they make it to recess alive" anon.
*scene shows two figures, one american, another communist* Communist: "America, you must carry out class warfare!" America: "Ok." *scene changes to show America-figure going towards a school with a gun, with communist-figure at the background* Communist: "My god, america, not like that!"
One American, one Communist? I'll meet you in the Debate Room with pistols as soon as my lifetime ban expires.
"I fired him because he wouldn't respect the authority of the President. I didn't fire him because he was a dumb son of a bitch, although he was, but that's not against the law for generals. If it was, half to three-quarters of them would be in jail." Truman on MacArthur
"When people say 'I don't know much about art, but I know what I like,' they're really saying 'I don't know much about art, but I like what I know.'" --Jerald Silva
I disagree, because there are people like me that simply don't know very much about art regardless of open-mindedness. Doesn't make much sense to say, "I don't know much about art, and I really don't know what I like." I generally know whether I like something or not.
"Its no use, God bless these Blues, Let's get wrecked and bruised and battered. I need you, Come on burn right through, Honey, show me I'm not shattered. ... They'll bury our bodies in American wrong." --- John Moreland, Salisaw Blues
“The law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal their bread.” ― Anatole France
