Omg congrats that's awesome! I couldn't do that, I don't even like being as tall as I am lol but pics and vid are lovely.
Very cool rocks. What's the geological process that makes them so? Assuming they're not artificial, which would seem cumbersome to construct.
Being not much of a geologist, rapidly cooling basalt after volcanic eruption. And definitely not hand carved. Not sure if it’s unique, but as near to as makes no difference.
Probably something in the molecular structure of the rock if I'm remembering geology 101 correctly (probably not). The shape mirrors the crystal structure or something. Any geologists around here?
I studied some material science. Rock is crystalline like metals. Most of their molecular component is made of salt. Rock is mostly silicon, a semi-metal.
Looks a lot like the Saco in the NH/Maine. I have a house up there and spent 3 years living permanently. God's country.
Cool. Never been. Looks like it's nearly the same distance from my house in NH as it is from my house in RI. Man, I'm seriously jonesing for that Northern New England vibe. Of course, when I lived there, I missed RI and then vice versa.
Rockland Breakwater This is about thirty or so miles east of me. Me and a friend took a ride out there last year about when I switched from photography to a dashcam, and from there started using Facebook live on my android. We walked a little over halfway to the lighthouse at the end during the sunset. The lighthouse is about a half of a mile out there maybe. This is actually a picture of when we turned around to see how far we'd walked.
I've been meaning to post this but its been slipping my mind! the notifications for this thread reminded me (yes, its alive..... i poked it with a stick to make sure )
I remember in an old sci-fi movie where they poked something with a stick and it didn't work out too well for them. Maybe it's a Swallowtail? Monarchs were popular when I was a kid. We used to search the milkweeds for the caterpillars and put them in a jar anticipating a chrysalis. I did find a swallowtail caterpillar once and it made the chrysalis but never emerged.
There were dozens of them above me and i just about had a heart attack! I can imaging roaming a field intentionally looking for them. Im pretty sure these were longer than my middle finger
so this is why I decided to put the comfy seat in my camper opposite the sliding door. I put a 14" telly in there too -- never been used. Who needs a 14" telly when you have a 72" planet to watch...
