I came up with a new sacrificial ritual for the winter months. During those months, I enter my kitchen, make a cup of tea with lemon and honey, and sacrifice it to Coldenfluvia, the Goddess of Winter Diseases. The prayer goes something like: 'O Mighty Coldenfluvia, accept this sacrifice that your humble worshipper has conceived unto thee, that thou might look with favour upon him, and not blight nor corrupt him with Ye Olde Sore Throat, nor taint his head, the seat of wisdom, with thy Agony. We beseech and supplicate before thy throne, O Mighty One; turn thy gaze on thy devout one, and answer his prayer -- that if, in thy pleasure, thou wishest this sacrifice to be consumed by him, give unto him no sign whatsoever.' Adding a few small slices of ginger and/or a few drops of brandy is also considered acceptable. All hail Coldenfluvia!
Sitting at a balmy 6 degrees outside (Fahrenheit). We sat under 0 most of the weekend, which was brisk and bracing. I look forward to walking the parking lot at work when I'm in office this week.
Once again I waited too long to put shoes on and the cold floor sucked all the warmth from my feet, so I'm extremely glad this old house has heat registers on the floor I can stand on and hold my shoes upside-down over for a while. Also very grateful that tommorow we're getting a 38 degree day, in the middle of ten days of around-zero temps. A chance to get out and stock up on groceries again. I'm also glad I have lots of canned food and freeze-dried food stowed around the house. Great stuff to have on hand for these emergencies (especially if you get around by bus, so need to walk and stand a lot out in the cold to get anywhere).
I went for a bit of a drive today. Roughly 800 miles round trip from South West Ohio to Northern Illinois. In 12 hours no less. (I drove there, did what needed doing, and drove back.) My legs are sore, my back is sore and I’m now reminded why I stopped doing shit like that.
Don't you just love it when you work in a story and it comes out far better than you expected it to? I had a rough start today with the power cut stuff but I finally finished a short story I've been writing on and off for the past week. It took a lot of effort and figuring out but its pretty bomb. I've got another short in my head. It's pretty much rinse and repeat now. It's all written for the contests here. I love those things. The prompts are genius.
Fantasy Writing Update: 605 words today, with 14K words overall! A plot-hole developed into a nice secondary conflict.
Off to Vegas tomorrow and I'm betting everything I have on black! No risk-it, no biscuit, baby! Going to see G3 while I'm out there... Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Eric Johnson. I was beginning to worry either they or I would die before I got to see them, so if I have to travel 2500 miles, so be it!
Whoah! Sweet lineup! I just happened to see this video yesterday: For some reason I always think of Steve Vai as an asshole, and I think it's because of his role in Crossroads. But he seems genuinely really cool here.
The new job is under way; my first week is done. I work four ten hour days- Monday through Thursday. Getting up at 4:30am sucks out loud through a straw, but I’m getting used to it. I’m off the hook for the mandatory overtime this week but next week, like it or not, I’ll have some overtime hours on the weekend. It’s going well so far. No one has complained and they seem happy with my work. I think I’ll stick around for a while. There’s a lot of potential at this place.
The attraction of Las Vegas completely eludes me, but millions of people love the special crazy it exudes. Are you having fun?
There's my problem: I don't drink, I don't gamble, and in my far distant youth, I spent enough time as a scantily clad dancer that in my old age I'm not interested in watching other scantily clad dancers (God bless them, every one).
I am doing a happy dance because I've lost nearly 5kg. Only another 1/2 kg and I've hit my target weight for Jan. Feb is 2.5kg
Hmm. A few years ago, I was a few kilos overweight, but I consulted a dietitian, and over the next 10 months, I lost nearly 12 kg. (Now I feel like I should say, "You can, too! Ask me how!" ... but that would probably be rude and incredibly presumptuous. Sorry) *blush*
I neglected to post a happy moment from a few days ago; actually it was two! First, I finally got to eat late Tuesday after fasting since Monday morning for a colonoscopy. I had a Big Mac! Yay! Second, Wednesday morning, I was able to ditch wearing adult diapers after the laxatives wore off!
Those are no fun. Unless you can shock the Dr. doing the procedure, like I did. I was in and out during the procedure, and at one point I asked the Dr. when I would get my 8x10 color glossys of the test. He freaked a bit that I was awake.
