Reading the first book of a trilogy i enjoyed in middle school. Still holds up! I was expecting it to read like a middle grade book, but it actually reads very mature. And its a bit darker than i remembered it. There was the whole description of ritual sacrifice. These priestesses are no nuns, i tell you. Oh, you're an injured person in need of sanctuary because someone is out to get you? Yeah, how about we treat your wounds and then kill you because we dont want to deal with your drama And to the MC? "Your mother was a dreamer too. And she ended up dead. You're just like her, so your days are numbered" (not those exact words, but the point was not missed)
Chanters of Tremaris trilogy Whats funny is that the male MC was my first book crush. In my mind, he was only slightly older than the FMC. Rereading it now, he is described as being "closer to thirty than to twenty" Must have missed that as a kid
I’ve been doing a lot of reading of bios by undercover officers ( research for a novel) while some are very good what stands out in a number of them is that they’ll be like ‘ wah wah wah I was treated badly by the police wah wah wah, and I’m left thinking “ yes that’s because you’re an entitled dickhead with no social skills”. Deep cover by Shay Doyle is classic example of that, also a great number of them are very much exaggerating their own importance… while being a test buyer who takes down street dealers is important and arduous it doesn’t equate to “ going undercover against the cartels” aye up - wrong thread I thought this was what are you reading now. I’ll move my post when I’m back at a pc
Was making a video for my channel. A quick history brush of how the first meeting after WWII went down -- inspired by Zach Stars Himself's video relating to the subject. Got a lovely comment saying it was hilarious and appreciated that I included captions. Now fired up to make more.
Just updated my Continual Professional Development (CPD) for my professional registration. We're required to acquire 30 points per annum. The 'year' begins from your month of registration. Failure to do so and you lose your registration. I got my 30 points for the year in 11 months. Phew - wipes brow.
Beginning week three in rehab after a fall/pacemaker install mentioned elsewhere. It's hard to imagine something so important done so poorly. My daily schedule: Get up, breakfast, about one hour of group physical therapy, lunch, dinner, bed, repeat. Staff are great, food is good, but what's left of my life is trickling away in front of my eyes.
I'm pretty sure standard operating procedure for registrants of any order is "leave it to the last minute, promise [lie to] yourself that you'll be on top of it next year, and repeat." One of my coworkers was down to the WEEK last year.
I don't miss keeping up with continuing legal education units, though we had five years to complete them all instead of a year. I generally got mine done early so I didn't have to think about the matter for several years. That being said, what am I doing right now? Procrastinating. I have a pile of stuff to do before I have to be off my feet for two weeks, yet here I sit contemplating CLE that I haven't needed to do since 2015.
Practicing harmonic minor 7th arpeggios, second inversion, backwards. It's not going so hot... even at a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star tempo. Those prodigy assholes like Mozart and Van Halen come out of the womb knowing this stuff intuitively without having to learn it. The rest of us are sitting here spanking our planks like: 6, 4, 2, 7... 5, 3, 1, 7... 4, 2, 7, 5... wait, did I skip the augmented? Is that the double flat 7 or the natural 6? Did I slip into another inversion by mistake? Why does this C# sound like my dog taking a shit? I think my guitar teacher is trying to kill me. My fault for being like, Hey, Teacher, let's take it up a notch! Great method for rewriting muscle memory, though. After a bit the fingers move without the brain getting in the way. I've found it takes me about a week practicing something 15 minutes a day for it to kick in. Kind of like the antithesis of memorization, clearing the mental cache to absorb more data to be applied to another sector of muscle memory. Too bad writing doesn't have a similar application.
Contemplating why the book of short stories i bought from a non-amazon seller on amazon was flagged "hazmat" and i have to come to the post office in person to get it (....do i even want it anymore??)
Sounds like the beginning of a great adventure. I would go and pick it up with a hazmat suit on me, gasmask and all.
I will be 30 in the next few weeks, but i do still enjoy Saturday Morning Cartoons. Im watching As Told By Ginger before its time to go to work
My knees and ankles made sure I understood that I was 30. Yin yoga and stretching help immensely. I am currently bringing up the willpower to face my online class work. I probably should've started this morning, but then I made myself busy with everything under the sun. Even to the point of coming on here and doing some reviews. I haven';t even really been here in a year. Somedays I just can't. Ya know?
Hey hey look at that ! I am currently watching the end of the last of the late hockey games, and also noticing that EFMingo is here. Welcome back !
weighing pros and cons of an ebike vs moped.... it is now warm out and i now live in the middle of the city. parking isnt as much of an issue here as it is in big cities... but still, i'd like to cut down on driving. So i'm trying to figure out my next mode of transportation...
The biggest problem with ebikes is they like to get stolen. A lot. My neice had one (living in Seattle) that she kept inside the apartment, behind two locked doors, and it got stolen very soon after she got it. A moped probably isn't nearly as theft-worthy. Plus there's the batteries bursting into flames spontaneously thing. That also happens a lot. Of course if a moped is electric it could have the same problem. If you make sure the battery is made by a reputable company with a good track record (not some Asian company you can't pronounce or never heard of) then there's a good chance it won't do that. It's the ones made by little out-of-the-way companies that spring up like mushrooms overnight that tend to do that. Another thing to check for is that the batteries use something called Protection, an electronic safeguard that switches them off if they start to get hot. The cheap ones don't have that.
I listed "high theft rate" as a con for the ebike..... a new coworker had his ebike stolen from off the rack in front of our job on his 2nd day of work. moped is a Honda Metropolitan .... i mean technically its a scooter. but i've heard it called that interchangeable. (i picked out the make and model of each... i just gotta decide which one -cries-)
I don't think the scooter would be as theft-worthy as an ebike. Plus it runs on gas, so no sudden fire hazard. Just in case though, you should look into mass transit in your area. Buses and light rail can be life-savers sometimes.
Patio, baby! First warm day of the year at 75 and sunny! Furniture is out, gin and tonics are served, and I'm sitting under the sun with the biggest shit eating grin you've ever seen! There's a pile of work on the patio table but I don't care. Revel and bask!
