Two 1-day form rejections from FlashFlood Journal. And then, a . Another second place in a Writing Magazine competition.
Couple quickies. A 1-day from Orion's Belt and a 3-day from an agent. Both form rejections, unfortunately. Up to 22 now with plenty of active subs out there.
A three day personal rejection from foofaraw, which was overall very complimentary and even expressed interest in future collaboration. So this was one of the nicest and most useful rejections I’ve ever received. Total for 2024: 7
Got a 22-day form rejection from an agent's assistant earlier this week. Also decided to clean up my Duotrope list a bit. It's unusual for magazines to never respond, but there are a couple. I am bailing on Infinite Worlds and Electric Spec after 370 days, Cosmorama after 340 (looks like they might have failed. Was a startup and they haven't published anything since October now), and Story Unlikely after 249 days. That'll take me up to 27.
When it rains, it pours. 25-day form rejection from Radon Journal, and New England Review rejected three pieces with a form letter after 65 days. 29 for the year now. I've been in a bit of a drought. No personalized rejections for many months now.
Got a couple of form letters. 1-day from Seize the Press and 26-day from Short Edition. Up to 31 now.
Ope, me again. It's bound to happen when you go on a little submission spree I suppose. All form letters with one "submit again." 2-day from The Dark, 3-day from Clarkesworld, 4-day from SmokeLong, and a 46-day rejection from an agent. That makes 35.
31-day rejection from Miniskirt Magazine. I’m not sure what kind of rejection it was- it was short, but included this: We want you to know that we really enjoyed your work, and we truly hope you'll submit again in the future. Not sure if they say that to everyone or if it’s a higher-tier rejection.
I doubt that they say that to everyone. It's a higher tier rejection. I'd put that one in my "Submit Again" email folder.
I won a competition! For stories with a twist. 50 entrants. I got £30. Hope it’s ok to share it here! https://fusilliwriting.com/winning-stories/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3V2DRcAgxNhAQxdCixMNA_rtFwv5brhi-DRSyial1_-Rkj-VVMNG4B8CQ_aem_ZmFrZWR1bW15MTZieXRlcw It’s the top one on this page, competition 17.
86-day form letter rejection from Terrain.org and a 4-day form letter from an agency. Still no success this year and it's nearly half over! That makes 37 rejections thus far.
Got some more this week. All form letters with one submit again. 7-day from an agent, and a pair of 13-days from Apparition Literary and 3LBE. 40 rejections now.
