I went to register, and they wanted my phone number. I balked. Am I being too paranoid to not want to put my phone number on the site?
You don't need to register to upload an image. Definitely don't give your number! Though I don't think anything bad will happen if you do.
Okay, I think I did it. So here's the pic I wanted to share. The other day, I came home and came out of the back man door on the garage and found this visitor on my patio. I think it's a Cooper's hawk. He better leave my chipmunks who run across the patio every day alone! I took the photo and then went back through the garage to go in the front door!
Imgur can be a little bit tough to work with. I'll explain what you have to do in a PM so we don't clog the thread.
What a majestic animal! So fortunate for you to get to see something like this in your backyard, wow ! I showed it to some bird enthusiasts I know and they confirmed it's an immature Cooper's hawk. You nailed it. They also mentioned that it looks like it's recently enjoyed a big meal. I wonder what that might mean for your chipmunks
I've lived here for 28 years - we're on a couple of acres surrounded by woodlot - and I have never seen hawks any closer than soaring over the trees. So this was a real surprise.
Where is this, Moon Child? *curious* It seems like a local park, but of course it could be the botanical gardens or somewhere even more special -- like when I was lucky enough to visit Italy last year (my first time!), and saw, among other things, the magnificent Villa Borghese. (And I liked it so much that, even though I was a tourist and my time was limited, I went back, just so I could walk around it. There's nothing like it, at least in Australia). Wow! I live in the inner city, so I rarely see any birds bigger than pigeons (or, as I like to call them, sky-vermin -- because they used to poop on my car ... and my AC unit (until I chased them off) -- and once, one of them pooped on my hat ... while I was wearing it, and waiting for a train. Splat. Groan. Grumble. Waves fist at the sky). This hawk is much more regal-looking. I hope it didn't relieve itself on your furniture.
Lol nothing to worry about. it happens all the time outside, and it gets washed away the next time it rains.
Took my semi-annual pilgrimage to Swan Point Cemetery to visit H.P. Lovecraft's grave. It's maybe 3 miles from my house and absolutely gorgeous. Lots and lots of rich ass people buried there (HP notwithstanding). I brought the forum with me, as best I could. Told him hello from everyone. He's just chilling.
That's really thoughtful. It makes me wonder what he would think of this place... One question though: What is up with those coins? They are coins, right?
Yeah, coins. Probably to pay the dude in the boat in the afterlife. Charon on the River Styx? Would he like the forum? I'd like to think so. Don't know much about him personally. Or maybe he'd want to send the Cosmic Goat from Beyond the Stars to smote us. Just noticed he died at 46. I'm 46.
Being an "Antiquarian" and a general old curmedgeon, he'd probably think the internet was a newfangled portal allowing Eldritch Daemons into our world and our minds. And I think he was probably right. I'm going to gibber for a while now, the moon is gibbous.
Sorry, what happened? Someone messed with the sign, or there were actual zombies? (And yes, I know that zombies don't actually exist. I was thinking of people recreating the Michael Jackson Thriller dance).
Ah, that. I am grateful there weren't any actual zombies (or even people pretending to be zombies). Another thing that happened - and a reminder to check your spelling:
I took this photo awhile back and really like the expression on this hawk's face. Only recently did I notice the dead squirrel stuck on the branch to his upper right, no doubt a tasty lunch marinating in the sun.
