About @Xoic ... I did email him and never received a response. I did think about emailing again just in case he missed it but thought against it to respect his choice for whatever he is into now.

Besides, I am pretty sure that he is actually off being really focused on his art. We've talked about art in his PMs and he did say that sometimes, he is completely and utterly focused on it.

He is likely to return sooner or later because he's been into writing for way too long.

Do you think that someone who is named after stoicism will let something small drive him away? Probably not so don't worry.

I've taken breaks before I was a mod. And it was one of those things were I didn't even login because I knew I'd get sucked right in again. Those internet distraction things will getcha good. Particularly when talking about writing becomes an acceptable substitute for actual writing, which is no bueno.

I was joking, but I'm not going to speculate about why he's gone - it's not really helpful and just makes people worry. If he can and wants to return, he will.

Eating after having forgotten to most of the day is wild. I'm eating the most basic of food, but it's like I've indulged in mana or something.

I know the feeling, Dogberry. Yesterday was Sunday here, and I spent most of the morning writing ... and then I looked at the clock and saw it was close to 2pm. Eep! Time for lunch.

I made myself a peanut butter sandwich and took a bite. Yummm so good. Crunch, munch, all gone. Then I had the energy to make something more for lunch. Slice a few seasonal fruit and strawberries, mix them together, and eat with a little flavored yogurt. Easy, quick to make, healthy and so delicious. Yum. :D

I've started a routine of waking up early(ish), making myself a cup of coffee, then sitting under a tree in my front yard and solving all my existential fears.

There are a lot of birds there, and they probably don't care about the BIG questions. They just make noises, eat seeds and build nests. I've never seen a bird frowning; wrestling with the meaning of life. They seem care free and happy. That's why I try to join them in the morning now, maybe some of that will rub off on me.

I've unsubscribed from all my YouTube channels that follow the wars around the world. I've unsubbed from all the conspiracy and ufo channels. I've unsubbed from all the true crime and even the motivational channels too. I don't think people know how to be happy, and that's why I've turned to the birds. I'm subscribing to the feathery friends that seem to know how to live. They have nothing, but apparently they have everything.

I agree. As I sometimes note in my posts, in many ways my best buddy is my bonded lovebird. When he is sleeping on my shoulder I share in his deep satisfaction with the moment. When he is awake and about I see no evidence of him pondering the big questions, but he isn't always happy. But that unhappiness is brief and grounded in real life, and it doesn't take much to make him happy again.

Had a great girls lunch out today - my mother, my aunt, two sisters, a sister-in-law, and three cousins. We started with mimosas.

Anyway, the subject of Canada becoming the 51st state came up. In our little group, I was surprised that there were those in favour. One cousin and one sister said it would be the best thing to ever happen to Canada. It is an interesting proposition. But it is kind of like marrying your cousin.

What's that joke? Something like 'the person who emigrates from Canada to the U.S. raises the IQ of both countries.

Well, that would be the largest state in area obviously. And population but not by much... 40ish million Canadians is 39ish million Californians. Not sure how you'd marry a welfare state vs an antithesis welfare state. And privatized industry vs state in some sectors.

I wouldn't have thought it would be one state...wouldn't it make more sense for the provinces and territories to be a state each?

people tend to use 51st state as short hand for just joining the union...as a practical matter both peurto rico and american samoa are ahead in the queue for statehood, then there's the issue of washington dc... so canada would likely be 54 through 67

Meh. It'll look weird on the flag. RI tried to secede once back in the day. Maybe I can drum that up to free up some room?

Maybe y'all can join Canada. What you call yourselves, anyway? "Islanders" or "Rhodians" or maybe "Rhodans" like the Japanese movie creature?

It's not contiguous, but closer than Hawaii!

We call ourselves Rhode Islanders. But you have to smash it all together like "Roadilandas." Best I can do on the spelling.

Interestingly enough, being from the city of Providence, we don't have a moniker like Bostonians, New Yorkers, Los Angelians, et al. I'm standing in a bank full of people right now waiting, and I just asked the crowd what they thought. Nobody has ever heard a term.

I think those in favour were thinking totally in economic and military terms. They completely ignored the cultural differences - like - milk in bags, colourful money, putting "u" in our words like colour, valour and honour, and the metric system.

there's as much difference between Ontario and Alberta as there is between Louisiana and California.

Hmm. I'm neither American nor Canadian, but even I've heard that - in general terms - Ontario is fairly liberal, and Alberta is definitely not. (Also, Alberta makes a lot of noise every so often about seceding, because basically "We speak French! And you guys don't! Nyah nyah!") :p

    Is that right? Just wondering.

"I'm French! Why do you think I have zis outrrrrrrrrrrrageous accent, you silly keeng?" ;)

Don't forget that we (both Canucks and Aussies) spell it "theatre", not theater. (And we both say "about", not "aboot"). :)

Speaking of new states for the US, I've read that Albania (on the east coast of the Adriatic, just to the east of Italy) have, in the past, asked to be allowed to join the USA. I can quite see why Albania is friendly to the USA (politically), but the logistics of it becoming a US state are ... formidable, to say the least. ;)

I thought it was mainly Quebec that spoke French (Quebec City, Montreal etc.)?

No, Alberta is definitely not French. They're cowboys.

Yes, that's right. And it's metre, not meter.

Yes, that's right. Alberta thinks Canada would be a much better place without Quebec and Ontario.
