    Have him bob over the border to Mexico. Allegedly.

    And the crowd goes wild!

    (All hail YouTube, provider of sound effects!) ;)

    Oh, dear. Just the mention of Mexico reminds me of at least four things:

    1. "South of the Border" by Frank Sinatra, obviously;

    2. "In Old Mexico" by Tom Lehrer, parodying such songs as Sinatra's;

    3. "The Long Good-bye" by Raymond Chandler, where going "south of the border" plays a part. (Read it, if you haven't; it's a classic of noir fiction, highly recommended).

    4. And, of course, the many-storied history of the place - and the names that made it legendary. Tenochtitlan, the fabulous Aztec capital on Lake Texcoco. The coming of the Conquistadores. La Noche Triste. Montezuma II, second-to-last Aztec emperor, and uncle to Cuauhtémoc, the last Huey Tlatoani. The tragic interlude over the next 300 years, until the end of the Revolution gained Mexico its independence in 1821.

    Santa Anna and the invasion of Texas, culminating in the Alamo Siege and the Battle of the San Jacinto River. The Zimmerman Telegram. Zapata and Pancho Villa after the war, of course ... and so on.

    There are many things anyone can call Mexico, but "boring" would not be one of them. ;)

    While there’s no doubt that if you’re in sandiego nipping over to Tijuana can lead to a wilder ( and much more dangerous) night life

    there is no real need, it’s extremely easy to pay for sex with a stripper in the US , and pretty much everywhere else in the world

    True. This is one reason why I recommended Chandler's "The Long Good-bye": it offers a taste - just a taste - of just how dangerous getting to Tijuana (and life there) could've been, even in the early 1950s, when Chandler wrote the book. (The other reason, of course, is that it's a hell of a book). ;)

    Back then, Mexico was experiencing a significant post-war economic revival and cultural vibrancy. However, the prosperity didn't reach everyone, and there was significant government corruption and the seeds of what would later become the drug cartels of today.

    Yes, Mexico is far more dangerous now. But life there was never easy, even back then.

    Indeed. I've visited a handful of border towns and worked for a few months in Mexico City - even had a girlfriend there. She spoke one sentence of English and my Spanish was rudimentary at best. God, it was great;)

    But no, joking aside, it was a great time. Amazing place, though it gets pretty messy on bin day.

    It's when all the strippers turn out to be vampires that you might have a problem.

    Gosh. I've never been to either the USA or Mexico, but from reading the history, I got the 'feeling' that Mexico's a little ... unsettled. To say the least. *shrug*

    I'd love to visit the USA, but I have a feeling I'd never see half the things I would like to see. I'm simply a curious person who likes seeing impressive sites and cultural centres (like museums, battlefields, and historic places) ... and the US seems like it's stuffed full of those. :-\

    I also tried to study the history of the native tribes, but there are so many and so different from each other. :eek: Cree, Creek, Comanche, Shoshone, Iroquois, Lakota, Dakota, Sioux, Hopi, Navajo -- I just named ten of them without looking them up, and I'm sure there are many more. How can one person possibly become an expert (or even a journeyman journeyperson ;)) on all of them? :meh:

    I wonder what would happen if a vampire got addicted to, say, a bloody Mary. Could the obsession with drinking blood be replaced with an obsession with another red drink? Tomato juice. Raspberry cordial. Even ketchup, gross as it may seem.

    Hey, a vampire has a literal eternity to get used to something. =P

    If one of them is Salma Hayek, I'm risking it.

    Thank $deity$ you didn't say Bela Lugosi. Or Christopher Lee. (Now there was a truly frightening vampire). :eek:

    What about Kate Beckinsdale? ;)

    But if I ever see the Tom Cruise vampire again, I'm running the other way. Not because he was scary, just because he was boring. (Though not as boring as friggin' Ed Cullen. Ugh). :rolleyes:

    Depends on the club and location. Some high-end spots have strict rules, while others turn a blind eye if enough money is involved. Managers and bouncers usually control what happens in VIP rooms.

    Some clubs have strict policies and security to prevent anything shady, but others might turn a blind eye if the right money is involved. From what I’ve seen, private VIP "favors" are more likely in places where enforcement is lax or the house takes a cut. For more info, checking sites like ( spam link deleted)

    I once visited a [link deleted]while doing research for a similar scene, and the setup gave me a lot to work with. It was way more intimate than a normal club, and what happens in VIP really comes down to how much the staff trusts you, your spending, and the local scene’s general vibe. Some places are more discreet with favors, others aren’t subtle at all.
