It was giving me the GoDaddy one after the change too, but after I cleared my cache, it gave me the XenForo.

Give it a sec, basically. It should work for everyone in a little while.

If everyone is eager to see it, look up on how you can clear your DNS caches per your browser.

Okay. It's working for me but might take time to propogate.

Jeez, where were you an hour ago? Just kidding. Love you, buddy. GoDaddy had me delete one of the A records and that seemed to fix it... at least for now. There were two listed, not three. The tech support was, well... never mind. There were telling me random shit and I was like, what's this A thing and why are there two of them? After a minute they were like, oh, yeah, delete that.

Studying to finish my university work :p I just wanna free myself from all that...

But then I decided to check the forum and found it weird that it was still propagating, so I decided to do a little investigation. I like doing stuff like that. It's like a puzzle, but a hundred times better.

Fun fact, in the middle of my "investigation", a 5.1 magntitude earthquake happened. It was near the Rhodes island (right next to Crete) so it shook the whole island pretty badly.

A part of me finds earthquakes interesting. Another part of me finds them terrifying.

Okay I got in and my admin account all works as it should and it looks pretty vanilla... however its half past midnight now in the uk and i have to be up at 7 so I'm going to leave the build out stuff til tommorow

If I can get some time away from the day job (hah) we ought to be able to open for business soon (we got a bunch of beach awards in the day job, and subsequently i'm busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest)

What's that? Drop the S, and now we're talking. Just like with writingforums.

Don't worry about it, bruh. I can slap forum scaffolding in easy. Let's worry about getting the rest of the mods over and the general user permissions.

I got it too, I think. All that talk of propagation, it seemed impokite to ask it to hurry up.

I've a story in my head and no excuses for the next couple of weeks but to put it down. One of the lines that will be in it is that "it was like watching the birth of a religion." Maybe it fits for this whole process too.

Will I need to re-register at the new site, or will my current registration carry over?

Are you talking about C.S. Friedmans' book here?

I really liked that story! It got me into her work in a big way. Whatever happened to her?

I'd love to migrate over, but honestly, the forum already isn't very active, and I imagine most won't move over. Any plans to try to get more members?

That's a bit of an inside joke. There is a sort of wiener war occurring here in Providence, with one massive wiener chain encroaching on the territory of an erstwhile massive wiener chain. Big time money. Like tens of millions big as to who can sell the most wieners at $4 a pop. Millions and millions of wieners being sold a $4 a pop to get into the $15 million range. It's a thing around here.

Aside from what we're doing now? I'm open to suggestions.

There will be plenty of notice. We'll probably set a hard date, roughly a week before the May 28th/29th potential shutdown, to get membership open regardless of where we are at. We will do what we need to do to make that date possible. I can't understate the fact that we haven't discussed word one about what the new forum will look like. Not even a brain fart.

I've been noodling with some thread creation in the new joint. Mainly to learn the software and practice. One thread idea I created and want to keep is an oral history of writingforums.org. Kind of like a progress journal, kind of like a New Member Introduction, kind of like Who are you and what do you Write. Kind of like a little guest book for everyone to document their journey and experiences with .org. It has been a unique experience for me. And I imagine for a lot of you as well. It would be great if we can get that down on paper while the memory is fresh.

And it will give the new forum a lot of character. We will need to grow membership. Like, a lot of new membership. I think it would very cool if we can get that recorded with an oral history vibe so everyone who comes aboard later knows who we are, how we got here, and why we're still together. All that shit. Not to get too flowery about the whole thing, but I think it's an interesting story in a world replete with boredom.

We are definitely unique. I'm not sure I've ever seen so much anonymity and intimacy assembled in one place before. I think it would be cool to write about.

I love that idea. I haven't been around all that long, but I remember logging in for the first time after being banned from AW after a couple weeks (lol) and quickly recognizing the kind of vibe that makes this place unique. It was my second time joining a writing forum, being all excited after "finishing" my first novel, and it turned out to be a great choice.

It's been quite the journey, and I can't imagine things going the way that they have without this site. I have no doubt that new users will find a welcome place when the new site launches. Word of mouth alone will probably be enough, though it will help immensely that the new place will be run like, a normal site that actually cares about attracting new members.

I love this idea. What you could do is have a list of questions for each returning member to tell their story. I think it's also sweet to commemorate all the years on .org.

She's still around, as of a year ago she was very active on FB. She also does costume design and rare book rescue there.

It's a crazy story. And everyone has a different piece of it to tell. People from all over the world intersecting randomly.
