Hate to say it, but it's getting to the point where it's hard to be origional, everyone's already thought of everything.

And even though there are people who couldn't stand Twilight, there are millions of others who love it to death. I got my mom to read it this weekend, now she understands me.

I realize that, which is why I said there's "too much hype."

That's the goofiest notion I've ever heard. I've read many, many new original stories. I have read much better romance novels, too, so this one did not impress me at all - that's all I was saying.

Plus, like I said, it's cheesy and not believable. That's the worst of it - not the fact that it's a cliche.

And let me ask you this: if there are no new original stories, what in the world is the point in publishing new books? For all the books that have already been written, there may be infinite more that are still waiting to be.

Rink, no need to come to a Twilight thread just to bash the book...Completely unnecessary. We all have opinions about books, and I see no reason to come here to try to start things by calling a book we enjoy "cheesey."

And yes, there are no new original plots. Pretty much everything has been done. The point in doing them again and publishing them yourself? Putting your own spin on them. Making them that much better than something anyone else has done.

LibbyAnn, thank you very, very much. =D

Rink, your complaint has been noted and filed with the proper authority.

I'm sorry; I did not mean to complain or bash. :) I thought the question was whether we liked it - some "other opinions."

And I realize that no book is completely original, but I couldn't find anything that I thought (key words) made it original at all - or any special spin.

No hard feelings meant. I was only expressing an opinion - and I can't imagine what I said that could have hurt anyone's feelings.

    Huh? What complaint?

    Never mind.

    And it's alright.;)

But I have to say, not many vampires sparkle in the sun, most of them burn, even in the Sims games. They don't have topaz or red eyes depending on what they eat either. I'm not sure if there are any others, but these ones really don't want to eat people. It's definitely different.

Also, about your post a bit before, it's okay that it's not realistic, it's a fantasy story.

Okkay, vamps aren't real, they can be altered anyway an author chooses, although some are mad I'm writing about a gy vamp..anyway, I like this perception of a vamp, it makes them a bit more human, I wish they could be like Spike from Buffy though...

Yeah, I like her vampires too. When I read another book called Sunshine (not a great book) and sunlight would kill the vampires, it bothered me because i like ones that sparkle better =D

LOL - I didn't mean realistic in that way...I meant realistic as in believable.

I realize that the sparkling in the sun thing was different - but it just wasn't enough to catch my interest. Some vampire stories I have really enjoyed include Peeps by Scott Westerfeld and I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. These, I thought, were a unique spin to the idea of vampires.

But there is nothing wrong with the fact that you like Stephenie Meyer, and I didn't mean to imply there was. I have many friends who also are a fan of her, and I tell them the same thing, because they ask. My apologies if I offended you. ;)

Also -- I was actually very intrigued from the very beginning of the book, when the strange boy (Edward, of course) at her school immediately hated her and started avoiding her. It kept me reading for a long time, out of curiosity. But by the time they started to fall in love, to me - and I do not mean this in a bashing way - it just seemed cheesy. That's where she lost my interest. I think she would be a very good mystery writer (and she is very skilled in language - I will give her that), so if she were to write another book (preferably in mystery, not romance, since that's what I think she is good at it), I would happily pick it up off the shelf.

It's alright. It's all opinions anyway. She is good at the writing part, and it makes me very jealous that she was able to write a 498 page book in 3 months. I don't know how she did it. =D

Yeah, to me it sounds overwhelming. I have attempted...and failed so, so miserably. So there you go; who am I to talk? I'm certainly no better.

At least she has the excuse of college.

And she is posting a quote everyday from breaking dawn until it comes out. These are the ones so far:

Alice: "I'll play you for it. Rock, paper, scissors."
Edward: "Why don't you just tell me who wins?"
    Alice: "I do. Excellent."

Bella: "Oh, Mike! How will I go on?"

Tanya: "Ah, Edward. I've missed you."

    Emmett: "Oooo, scary."

Bella: "Jasper? What do vampires do for bachelor parties? You're not taking him to a strip club, are you?"

Charlie: "Bells, we're up to bat."

Edward: "You're awfully small to be so hugely irritating."

Bella: "Why am I covered in feathers?"

Some of these worry me =D

I have to keep telling myself that she's only really good at writing because she's way older than me and has gone through a lot more school =D

    and here are more quotes:

Alice: "No one will dare to call you plain when I'm through with you."
Bella: "Only because they're afraid you'll suck their blood."

    Edward: "Oops."

    and here's another...

Renee: "Alice wouldn't let us do anything else. Every time we tried, she all but ripped our throats out."

It makes me wonder what they've been doing.

And I'm beginning to fell lonely on this thread.

    I'll join you.

I think I'm one of the very few males out there who actually really enjoyed the books.

*shifty eyes* I really didn't like New Moon though.

I think one of the reasons they're so popular is the characters are very easy to relate to (at least for me)...anyone have my back on this one?

Anyway, I am eagerly awaiting Breaking Dawn.

YAY! I love guys that read twilight. I didn't like New Moon either. I mean it was okay, but with out Edward...you know what I mean. I just made my mom read them and now she can't wait to read Breaking Dawn. I promised her that she would be able to read it starting around ten in the morning on August 2nd since I would have already read it =D.

It's extremely exciting knowing that now we have less than ten days to wait for it!

And here is today's quote from breaking dawn:

Edward: "Do you want me to sing to you? I'll sing all night if it will keep the bad dreams away."

This concerns me. What bad dreams? And please tell me this isn't towards the end of the book cause vampires don't dream.

I haven't read it, but I heard it was pretty good. Should I read it? I saw a trailer for the movie, looks cool. But then again, directors have a way of messing things up.

Has anyone read the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris? I've never read the Twilight series, but a friend of mine has and she said that if I like vampire books (like the Stackhouse series) then I'd love the Twilight series.

Go ahead and read it =D. Stephenie Meyer was there when they were filming, so I think that most of the movie will be the same as the book, but they had to add a few things in order to make it longer. I still think that the book is going to be way better =D

I like books that are more realistic fiction, and though Twilight has vampires in it, the setting and the characters are all realistic, there's just a few more vampires in it. And the vampires are cool because they aren't the same vampires in every other vampire story.

I have more quotes, i like the first one =D
Rosalie: "Over my pile of ashes."

Edward: "You look so guilty-like you've committed a crime."

Sam: "This is not something our treaty anticipated. This is a danger to every human in the area."

Rosalie: "I'd like to beat you dead."

    Jasper: "I can't understand. I can't bear this."

I'm refusing to read this series out of stubbornness. I am a guy, though. That makes not reading it a little easier. :D
