What compells you to write? Anything. Why do you write? Because I'm obsessed... and I do actually wish to keep what sanity I have left. You might as well ask why I breathe, eat or drink. What makes you write what you write? I'll have to get back to you on that one. What Made you decide you liked to write? It probably came to me when I couldn't go a day without writing. What Do You Write? Mystery and fantasy mostly. I'm terrible at romance. And poetry.
Because writing is like magic. You can do whatever you want. You are God and this is your Universe so rule it. And rule it right. So when other people glimpse your handiwork they can truly honestly appreciate it. I love writing. I always have. Why see movies when your mind is the greatest theater of all, why play games when there is no game engine that can match the power of your imagination. I want to give others that experience. The experience of living another's life of stepping into another world. Of being another person. I have felt that experience myself and for that I thank all my favorite writers out there. I want everyone to feel the same. But the most important reason(it might sound a bit mushy) is to bring a smile to someone's face. To see them smile with the simple joy of reading something. If I can successfully do that I'll think I have achieved my goal as a writer.
What compels you to write? I suppose the stories within me compel me to write them. Yeah, that makes hella lotta sense. Why do you write? Because writing defines me. Without writing, I would be something else entirely. You may as well ask me why I breathe. What makes you write what you write? I guess just curiosity to see where these characters will go. Even if I have an outline, I'm always trying to get to know my characters better, and when I do, i may find that they don't follow my outline. What Made you decide you liked to write? As weird as it sounds, I think I'm a born writer. Even before I could write I wanted to write. I was always telling stories and now I'm just telling them in a better way. What Do You Write? Mostly fantasy, really, but non-fiction stuff occasionally. I find that I'm often writing from the POV of animals or creatures that aren't entirely human, and a theme tends to be humanity's relationship to other animals (because is just another species of animal, you know).
Writing is my disposition, thereby there is nothing to compel me.I write easily as I have hitherto been reading books,I learn the valuable knowledge from them.I write anywhere and on the necessary times.Writing essay or taxing-perception books, sometimes I even publish my book which makes me gratified. There is indeed no fear of writing.
I write simply because the ideas won't leave me alone until I do. So I guess the root of compulsion is compulsion.
I'm compelled by me. I do it for me. I write it because I like it. I started to like it because I told myself to. I write myself.
What compels you to write? I enjoy writing - I find it easier to put words onto paper than to say them out loud and I think it's easier to get over the right message with writing than it is in person as there are no presumptions made before you've started. I like sharing my knowledge with others as I learn and I like the idea of inspiring others. Why do you write? I'd be lying if I said it was nothing to do with the money - writing professionally makes a good living. I couldn't do something for a living that I didn't enjoy though - I do like putting my ideas on paper and knowing they will benefit or inspire others. What makes you write what you write? I write in law, philosophy, and criminology, and I also write articles to help others write. These subjects are just a reflection of my qualifications though - I have a lot of interests that I haven't yet written anything about. What made you decide you liked to write? My mind's always busy - full of ideas and different slants on things - I like sharing that with others and writing is just one way to do it. I also think I'm better at expressing myself on paper than face to face. What do you write? When I'm writing for a living, it's law research pieces or content for websites. So it's always factual writing. I don't enjoy writing fiction - the only fiction piece I can ever recall writing was my final coursework for my English GCSE and it scored an 'A' - it was about a paper boy that got bullied and came back to take his murderous revenge. Mostly I find fiction kind of pointless though - this is kind of mirrored in the books I end up buying (military history, programming or law .. I'm a bundle of laughs really!)

Now writing Days of Our Lives, that would be fun...
I just know that I have to write. When you start having writing withdrawls, then you know that you have to write just for the sake of writing. A strong emotion, no matter what it is, makes me want to write. It's also amazing therapy, it gives me a way to vent if I'm upset, otherwise I would have to turn up my music as loud as it goes and scream my head off. Writing is a bit quieter. I write fiction. I love to make things up and create something different.
I want to write becouse, I choose to write...plain and simple...even If I'm not very good at it. And if you do it for any other reason like, Becouse I'm good at it, or becouse my mommie sais that I should then your ****ed.
It's interesting how I got into writing. I don't know what compelled me to write my first story...it sucked, of course, and I knew it was terrible a day or two later when I looked back on it, but since then I've wanted to keep writing. You know when you're in maybe the second grade and people always ask you what you want to be when you grow up? Well I had no idea, so I just said "an author" because I figured it might be cool to write books. I've also had the urge to create worlds of my own while watching movies and reading books. Writing is the easiest way to create my world.
There is nothing more inspiring, than to think what your writing abilty could escalate to in a year's time, should you keep practising writing.. Does this answer your question?

I feel somewhat like a fish out of water in that most of you probably are published and I'm like a preschooler in that respect but I do know one thing. I write because I'm compelled to. In school, I'd lose track of time day dreaming in other worlds and imagining characters to stories I'd never intended to write. I was awesome in the class and I wrote in a journal to escape my tragic life. I lose myself in fantasy and even though I'm an adult now I've never stopped doing this. My life inspires my writing and it makes me feel as if I can rewrite my own story I can be what I was meant to be. I can go places no one else around even knows existed. If I'm not a writer I don't know anyone that is!

I write to escape from reality. To create my own world where everything happens the way i want it to. Even though i don't have total control over my own life, i can control the lifes of the characters in my stories. Especially when everything seems to be going wrong, and life seems so chaotic, writing takes me to a place of peace. What makes you write what you write? My life. I put parts of my own life into my writing and make everything happen the way i wish it was in my life. Also, other people. The way they act makes me think about how they think, and what their life has been like, and then i start seeing things from a different perspective. What Made you decide you liked to write? When i was younger, i would write a chapter or two of a story from an idea that would come into my head. I never got further than the second chapter until my current story. And I fell in love with my characters. They became my friends. And i really enjoyed telling their stories. What Do You Write? I write what i like to read - Fiction; mostly fantasy and adventure.

Fantasy, adventure with supernatural twists. Occasionally a short story or two.
What compells you to write? I have a huge escapist gene, I need to concentrate on something, almost all the time, or I'll go mad. I don't know the concept of relaxing. If I'm not writing then I'm making music, which is my profession, or I'm painting, or reading, or learning about these things; All escapes...the rest of the time I generally just get drunk, I'm crap at relationships as you can imagine. Why do you write? To escape, to wallow in the beauty of the creative process, and to better myself. What makes you write what you write? At this early stage in my writing (One year) I find the creative process to be more important than the subject, I learn more. So I write at random to learn. But, it's necessary to get something out. I've been writing a novel for the last six months, based on a piece of my history, with embellishments, and if I don't get it out, I will go mad, it's been haunting me for some time now... Sometimes a tiny idea, deserves to be a big idea, and writing makes that possible. Like the difference between whistling a tune in the shower, and writing a song based on it. What Made you decide you liked to write? I didn't start writing until I took a solo trip to Thailand for a month to take a break from general life, that was dec 2007 - jan 2008. The day I got there, without ever writing before, I put pen to paper to record my thoughts. I will never learn how to relax. Every day I wrote more and more until three weeks later I had filled over 400 pages in several notebooks. I took my notebooks everywhere I went, and wrote for hours a day. One evening I went to a huge party, got drunk, and lost the lot. I cried like a baby. Since then I haven't stopped writing, I write every day. Sometimes I forget to eat. What Do You Write? Words, in all their glory. ...And music, of course.
For me writing is my escape. I really love to write fiction, but it does not pay as well as non-fiction. If I could just write that would be my dream job. But for now writing is my way to escape and dream. Ever since I was little I knew I was meant to write and not have a 9-5 job, so day I will financially get there. Great thread! Tressa
