What compells you to write? an active imagination. Why do you write? The same reason I read. It puts me in a more interesting world than the real one. What makes you write what you write? Sometimes my own life experiences. Sometimes a random daydream turns into a scene turns into a plot. What Made you decide you liked to write? Seeing plot threads come together and the whole story make sense. Its not the writing that i like, its the story. What Do You Write? fantasy / scifi / horror. Though i find all 3 generally overlap.
There are not enough well written epics. And I don't mean "epic" as in it goes on for aaaages, I mean epic as in you're at chapter 300 and you still don't want it to end. Massive casts, multiple twists, climax after cliffhanger after double-cross A challenger appears! The tables have turned! There just aren't enough stories that take place on a MASSIVE scale but are able to retain a profoundly human and even humanitarian element. THE WORLD NEEDS MOAR!
Oh goody! Writing about writing - can it get any better!? What compells you to write? A eed to create and relish in a good thrash about in words. Yummy! Why do you write? To calm, to escape and to create What makes you write what you write? A compulsion to finish an idea What Made you decide you liked to write? Who knows!? What Do You Write? Anything and everything though I'm running at a writer's block at the moment on one non fiction and one fiction.
1- I honestly couldn't say. I carry around a small journal everywhere I go because my inspirations are so spontaneous! I can be anywhere, doing anything with anyone and BOOM I suddenly capture this thought in my mind that I hang onto as desperately as I can. Or at least long enough to whip out my journal and jot it down. It's strange really. It could be word, a sentence, a phrase, a picture and suddenly I can fire through a whole poem, or short story or even an idea for a novel with just that one inspiration that before seemed so simple in comparison. Not much of an exact how, but then, would it be an inspiration if it wasn't unexplainable? 2- I write because if I didn't all these thoughts and ideas and feelings would consume me from within and drive me absolutely crazy. I have this, sometimes unfortunate but otherwise appreciated gift of being able to feel what someone else is feeling even if I had not experienced it before. And because of this, I can write from a variety of perspectives as if they were my own. If I didn't write, all these feelings from all these people I know in their own situations would become too overwhelming. Writing helps me release all the chaos, and in turn, after all the sporadic thoughts are flushed out of my mind, I can sit and think of what I can do to help them. I guess, if it is simply put, I write so that I may help someone. 3- I am generally drawn to historical fantasy, and I usually write in this genre because I have noticed for people who read and then connect with a character, it seems they grow fond of those that do not seem to be attached to any real human form. Although this statement is somewhat of a contradiction as I do write from the first perspective (whether it really happened to me) as much as I write from the third, at least for myself, I always had a sense of dependability when connected to a created character rather than through an actual person that I knew was out there writing of themselves. Why? I suppose I couldn't really answer that except that I felt that person was already 'taken' where as the created character I could morph to be my own. (I guess that sounds strange.) I write fantasy because I connect to the character more and it allows me to think freely and not have boundries as to what is the norm and what is not. 4- Well, the first question in my mind is, "You mean there was a time I didn't know?" lol But now that I think about it I think what made me decide I liked to write was my sense of empathy, which it seems people understand, and even accept in some sense, more through a story than if say I walked up and started crying with someone who had just gotten into a terrible accident and said, I can feel your pain and I really am sorry without ever having actually been through it. I'm sure you can believe the looks I recieved when as a little girl I'd cry with strangers or randomly hug them. I decided without losing my connection with people, however strange, and what I seemed to be fairly good at, I should find a new way through what I could do to help them feel less alone. And so started the writing, which later became even my own way of therapy. 5- The genre I love best is historical fantasy (which I explained a little earlier), at least for my novels in progress . But I also love to write poetry and short stories.
What compels you to write? The admiration for the artform and the desire to create. I can't draw for toffee but I've always been able to get my thoughts across with a pen and some lined paper. Why do you write? To practice, to learn. I don't write that much because I'm very much dipping my toes into the water and it takes me time to latch onto ideas and then to shape them into a particular form. What makes you write what you write? I suppose it's a product of both what I've read in the past and my life experiences. That is part of what makes the art so appealing. We each see everything entirely different and therefore, only I can write what I write. What Made you decide you liked to write? Teachers. Being told I had potential. This in no way means that I think I am good! What Do You Write? That's hard to say. So far I've worked on scripts but they've stalled due to not being good enough. Horror and comedy so far but I'll write anything if I think I can. That probably means never fantasy as I have no liking for it personally.
I write for one reason: It's fun. I can sit at a word document for hours(if I had that time) upon hours and type out stories. It's simply my favorite thing to do. I write whatever comes to me. I can never write if I don't have a moment where I go "aha! That's the plot!" I started writing randomly. One day I'm like, "Hey, I'm gonna write a book!" figuring all I had to do was slop something into a word document and TADA! The equivelint of Harry Potter. Two words: dead wrong I wanted to get better, and can now write at a standard that pleases both me and most of my readers.
What compells you to write? Ans: When I feel strongly about a subject. Why do you write? Ans: I am putting together a new career. What makes you write what you write? Ans: Passion. What Made you decide you liked to write? Ans: I always liked it. From childhood on. No one introduced it to me, I sought writing out on my own. It was the way my expressed my heart and soul as a child. What Do You Write? Ans: Nonfiction. True things. __________________
What compells you to write? Nightmares and dreamscapes (basically, the stuff in my head at night) Why do you write? Because I enjoy it, I'm kinda good at it, and I have to write some things for my uni course. The rest is for fun. What makes you write what you write? It could be in my head, screaming to be told as I'm plotting it out. It could be something I've dreamed that stuck with me. It could be a song, that gives me a flick in the brain and makes me. In reality, anything and everything makes me write, it's getting me to stop that's the problem! What Made you decide you liked to write? Reaction, not just of people I knew, but those I didn't! What Do You Write? Fantasy, gothic, horror, s-f, normal stuff, scripts, poetry, reviews, etc etc....The list is ENDLESS!
What compels you to write? The urge inside of me when I open a new notebook or look at a blank screen. Something must fill those pages and it's my job to do so. Why do you write? It's who I am, it's inside of me. What makes you write what you write? Each and every place, person, object, etc. has a story that needs to be told. A friendship that didn't blossom has a million different angles in which a story can be told or how one home can house a number of different families, all whose stories need to be created. What made you decide you liked to write? It's a natural feeling. When I'm jotting down notes or rummaging through the chests in my brain trying to figure out how that one road sign can be something more significant to some one, some where, I feel at peace. What Do You Write? I'm skilled at writing romance, but will write blurbs of any type of genre. I will write a poem or two when the mood is right. I find writing letters to those I love is very effective when I'm upset.
What compels you to write?,Why do you write?,What makes you write what you write? I guess it is my way of cleaning my body and soul of the agglomerated feelings and thoughts. Some kind of mechanism to keep me sane...In my scribblings I can live trough my past again, and sense my future,as a memory. Maybe, I just love to play with words. What made you decide you liked to write? I never decided. It was decided for me, on some other level. What Do You Write? When I was younger, I was writing poetry mostly...some rough feelings and influences from Baudelaire mixed with my teenage problems...but as I grew older, I started to get more attracted by the composition of longer sentences and more space to aim to the point. So now, I am writing both poetry and prose. Mostly sensitive stuff, pieces of dreams never to come true, I play out every possible history for myself. I always write in that blurry state when words just come to my hand, and anything can come out...
What compells you to write? Anything and everything. Something as simple as drinking a cup of coffee, to something as complicated as Super-Massive Black Holes. Why do you write? I write because I was born to write. Because I can. I write because it is the only way to convey my true feelings; words on a page are beautiful - especially my own. What makes you write what you write? The beauty of nature, art, knowledge. The sorrow of death. My self-will to channel my thoughts onto paper, for myself as much as others. Everyone is genious. What made you decide you like to write? The very first time that I closed the cover to a book, and had this inexplicable feeling come over me. I had read for pleasure. What do you write? I write what I think others, and myself, need to know. The solemn beauty of life and love. Whether it be in the form of a sweet poem, or a work of horror. I write because I couldn't not write.
First thing is because I love to write, I love to spill out my ideas into pieces of paper. Everything good just seemed to keep on flooding into my mind, when I don't know where to dump them. These good things however, were soon turned into fiction, whether they're short stories, novels, even poetry. Another thing is because I love the nature of literature. It's just too good to put down. Literature discovers the nature of human and behavior, and point them out in different works. I love how authors do it, it's like they have their own ways in discussing human nature and behavior, thus referring to what we call "perception and experience". People differ from each other and they tend to write differently, therefore I believe that writing is such a wonderful thing. Writing is Life and I want to live my life! Usually I would write Fantasy, but then it has evolved into General Fiction, Fantasy, and quite a few Romance I usually write what came popping into my head, I tend to daydream and get several story ideas lol.
What inspires YOU to write? For me I guess its just telling the story of my characters. I really am into my characters which make me continiue. Also I love feeling like Im in a different world rather than my own. What about you?
The need to rip the shiny wrapper off of any and all dynamics and paradigms to look at the function within the greater whole.
I cannot describe it any better than: my mind. I know it's kind of a weak answer, but I write because I feel compelled to. I don't do it for money (of which I have none), fame (of which I have none), or glory (of which I have none).
This thread I avoided because it is difficult to come up with the answers. What compells you to write? Compell is a strong word. Nothing compells me, but something keeps on gently steering me towards the written word. I think it's the fact that I love to read which naturally makes me want to participate in this community of books, ideas, stories, whatever. Why do you write? Because I am a horrible speaker, but I still love the language. Language is my homeland, if I may steal the words of a poet. What makes you write what you write? The love of stories and an interst in peoples lives, motives and actions. It could be called gossip I guess. What made you decide you like to write? That's a tough one. It's not the praise because I hide my litterary adventures from everyone. It's not ambition because I don't have it. It could be that I've always found writers cool, and who doesn't like to be cool. I do have a story though. I also like painting and my art teacher is very old and wise and we all love him dearly. I was complaining once about my job that I hated, so he quietly said to me: why don't you become a painter? Somehow all I heared was: why don't you become a writer? That was the first time I saw writing as more than a secret pasttime, something I should pursue with dedication. True story. What do you write? I read somewhere you should write 50 or more stories about your life to get rid of all your baggage, and THEN start writing about other people etc. I am currently doing that because sentimentality bothers me, it spoils a good piece of writing. I will never post a truly autobiographical piece in this forum because I know it will be written worst than my usual bad. Having said that I like short stories of all genres, as well as poetry. A novel is a distant dream that will never happen. I also like essays, but I am never sure of myself there. I also like excersises in style, as in sonnets, haikus etc. Sometimes it's liberating to follow the rules!
The reason I write is that I love expressing myself in that form. Its a way to release whatever I have on my mind or in my soul.
BOO-RAH I figured it out! Finally. What gives me the write to right, right when I could right write wronged thinggs...that could be misspelled and jaded and used and abused, and misused over wording the word. The actual word? Because I believe that not everyone is RIGHT, or has the given write to right! I caught a literary teacher(Alice was her name, like Alice in the wonderland she is in) and she was WRONG in some places. Why? SHe spelt spelled wrong in some places, but she hada great damn story and I wanted to read more, but was crushed in belief and unity and the heart of writing itself, why? Because, I thought I literary. English lit Teacher was a professional, getting paid with her profession to spell and use words correctly and in the proper of languages. The art of her languages was deminished because I thought, pros R pros......................BUT pros.............. EVEN the pros make mistakes.............now is that funny? I could tell you more, but I would be banned from the boards and become bored again, wondering and the wonderment of this Alice..........WHy....NOT everybody KNOWS HOW to write, right and good. BOOM. NOW I am mad. The MadHatter....? In the head mad? NO, mad because I trusted in professional help. And ladies and gentlemen, professional even mess up UP. OK....done with rant. SORRY. My soul still hurts, bruised and used and misused a word too. SORRY. Love you guys! L. (I am so ticked, this may contain mistakes, but who cares N E more!)
What compells you to write? Why do you write? What makes you write what you write? What Made you decide you liked to write? What Do You Write? 1. Nothing really compels me to write, its just something I do when I'm bored. 2. Boredom and drudgery! And having another outlet for creativity is always a good thing, no? 3. I have no idea - I just enjoy putting stuff on paper, I guess. 4. Creating stories is EXTREMELY rewarding in itself, having other people read and praise you even more so. 5. I write mostly genre fiction, horror and science fiction (Though I SUCK at both).
