I'm joking. The riots only (or have only) happened for hockey. But it is awesome and scary when the Leafs win a playoff round. Last time fans looted sports stores, stole Ottawa Senators jerseys and burned them in the streets In Montreal though there have been vehicles set on fire after key hockey games- it would probably happen here if the Leafs made the finals. I'm kind of surprised the Olympic celebrations didn't result in any major damage. As for TFC, the fans are crazy. I don't think they'll riot though.
Hm, I'll look around and see if I can catch a game or two. Edit: Although riots aren't approvable by any means. Thankfully the only people we riot against are the Bears, Lions and the 'Queens (one 'Queen player in particular ).
UFC 111 tonight. I'm excited and a bit nervous for tonight. GSP is of course my favourite, while Dan Hardy is thoroughly dislikable. This fight will almost certainly be a beatdown in GSP's favour- I think he takes him down and wears him out the first two rounds then finishes him in the 3rd. Carwin vs. Mir is an interesting matchup, just because there's so many ways it can go. Carwin has never been out of the first, and Mir has some of the worst cardio in the sport so if this goes deep into the championship rounds it could be a disaster, like the Kimbo Slice/Houston Alexander laugher. I think Carwin will keep up his streak of first round ko's. It is hard to argue against someone who has literally made a career of first round knockouts.
GSP won, and completely outclassed Hardy, but it was still a bit disappointing. He did come close with a few kimuras and a nasty armbar, but still no finish for GSP. He came close, but Hardy is not an opponent who should take him the distance. All of that being said, this was domination. I'm not sure there's anything left for GSP to prove at 170. Carwin fight went like I expected. Can't wait to see him vs. Lesnar, I think he's going to knock him out bad. Actually, the Heavyweight division has a number of really good matchups coming up- Dos Santos and Velasquez are, in my opinion, both in the elite group with Lesnar and Carwin. My fight of the night unsurprisingly goes to Batman. More action in the first 3 minutes of that fight than all of Fitch/Saunders
I think the only reason Hardy got out of that one kimura is because GSP didn't want to break his arm. He had Hardy's arm bent back pretty badly, so if would have really pulled on it, Hardy's arm would have snapped.
Raiders appear to be close to acquiring Donovan McNabb. According to reports I've read, the price will be a 2nd round pick. Honestly, at McNabb's age I'd rather give up a 3rd. Then again with Davis's recent history, we might be better off surrendering our 1st. He's also only under contract one more year. On the plus side, he's not the biggest bust in NFL draft history.
Well my lads, Wigan Athletic got robbed blind by dodgy refereeing last night and a terrible piece of goal keeping. I still think we'll survive though !
McNabb to the Raiders, Cardinals, Vikings..... IMO, the guy is definitely a good QB. He's choked a few times, and therein lies the argument that he isn't great. I think he's solid, and would be a great acquisition to any team needing a veteran QB. Although I think the Cards should let Leinart get his turn. You never know what kind of a gem you may have as a backup until your starter retires. [/speaks from experience] Although I never really paid attention to Leinart (why should I?), so maybe he's less than promising.
Well for the first time in its history, BMO field, home of Toronto FC, will host an MLS playoff game. It is the championship Odds of the TFC actually appearing in the match? Less than zero
The 2nd one was a crazy play- Philthy Phil made an incredible pass which Grabovski wasted... only to have Exelby score his first goal in something like 3 seasons. The 1st was all Tyler 'Bozo' Bozak, who made a great play to Stahlberg. The 3rd was Luke Schenn. Luke is not an offensive defenseman, he is one of the best young defensive players in the game. But every time he scores, the Leafs win, and he only scores against teams that Leafs fans hate- Ottawa, Montreal, and now Buffalo. Needless to say, he is the most beloved Leaf. We just wish he scored more often The Schenn play was nearly impossible for Miller to save because it deflected off the stick of a Sabres player- this is why, as long as there isn't a defender threatening you in the shooting lane, putting the puck to the net is almost always a good play. Last night broke a 10 game losing streak to the Sabres, so I'm very happy with the result. Now they just need to put some points together so that Boston gets a lousy pick.
I was very, very impressed. The whole world (as of Vancouver) knows Miller is absolutely all-world. Even I knew that, and I don't watch hockey. The guy is surreal.
Given Ovechkin's relatively disappointing goal output, his misbehaviour, the fact his team played well without him, and his Olympic debacle (completely invisible in one of the most lopsided losses ever for Russia against Canada) Miller will probably take the Hart trophy this year as the NHL MVP. The only thing that gives me pause about Miller is his durability. Especially for a goalie he is not a large man, and he loses a startling amount of weight during the season. Come this time of year, he's almost always worn down and in less than ideal shape. If Buffalo wants to ever take a serious run at the Cup, I think they need a quality backup that gives them a chance to win, and can handle 25-30 starts a year, and can take some of that pressure off Miller. Because if Buffalo can ever get to the playoffs with a fresh Miller, they could win it all.
Those were the days, my friend, We thought they'd never end, We won the League three times in a row, We won the FA Cup, And now we're going up, We are the Town, Oh yes, We are the Town! Colchester slipped up yesterday against Exeter. A win today will put us in the play-offs with only 7 left to play. To complicate things, we're playing Wycombe, who will be out for revenge after we humiliated them live on international telly with a 6-0 thrashing back in November (not often I'll say this: six really flattered Wycombe - we should have hit about 15 that day, we were that good). I'd settle for a 1-0 scrap today.
Random sports stat of the day I thought was funny: Of the 4.8 million NCAA brackets submitted to ESPN, only 200 correctly predicted the Final Four.
The dream play-off final against L**ds is on! L**ds got done 3-0 at home by Swindon (stop sniggering at the back) yesterday in a result that saw L**ds slip to 4th, while Town triumphed 2-1 at Wycombe to take the final play-off spot. With 7 to play, Town are just 8 points off the second automatic promotion spot, with an easier-looking run-in than those around us. We've got Millwall at home (live on Sky, Friday 16th April, 7.45ko if anyone fancies watching a massive promotion battle) and Colchester in the final home match of the campaign, but Colchester have us, Millwall, Charlton, Bristol Rovers and someone else in their run-in. But I can see it now: a packed Wembley playing host to the League One West Yorkshire derby in the play-off final. In the 89th minute L**ds are 1-0 up... but then Theo Robinson fires in from close range and then Jordan Rhodes heads in his 25th goal of the season to send Town back to the Championship...
Good twin!!! Well sort of a dissapointing loss last night and I use that term weirdly. Besides an ongoing problem with bad first touches, the Sounders actually played a really great game. We played it in New Yorks half for the majority of the game and we had a lot of really good shots. Had the red bulls goalie been only half as good or a couple of headers not gone wide we would have easily had 2 or more goals, but it didn't work out that way. As for new Yorks goal, it was a good goal that was largely made up of the a couple circumstances and a player being able to hit the ball just right. It was definately a good goal. So when i say it was a disappointing game, well I mean in terms of not so much that we lost, but more in terms that we shouldn't have lost. With the way everyone was playing it should've been a tie at least. Still i don't begrudge New York for their goal because it was good, and I definately have to give kudos to the keeper because he played a great game and so did we.
McNabb traded to Washington. If Washington wasn't such a disaster, Philadelphia might regret trading one of the best players in their history to a division rival.
I think this was a bad move by both teams. McNabb regularly got the Eagles into the playoffs, so getting rid of him could hurt them for the time being. Not that Kolb will be a bad starter, just McNabb is the better quarterback right now. As for the Redskins, going out of their way to get an older quarterback when they already have a good quarterback is just weird. That draft pick at another position would have probably done them more good than a slight upgrade at qb.
If there was any doubt before, it's clear now that Philadelphia is in rebuild mode. They've got a lot of picks this year, if they use them wisely they can get a head start on forming a new core. It's hard to see them competing for a playoff spot this season. As for the Redskins, my problem with the deal from their perspective is I'm still not convinced they have a core, which the McNabb trade is supposed to build on and solidify. In particular, their offensive line is putrid. It's just about certain they're taking an OT in the first round- but I don't think anyone this class is much of a standout, not like Joe Thomas or Ryan Clady, maybe not even a Jason Smith, and Smith still hasn't even hit his stride. Given his age and the injury problems which have become a yearly concern, I'm not convinced McNabb will still be standing come the later parts of the season. McNabb is still a big upgrade over Campbell right now, but he doesn't have many seasons left. I've heard rumours the Redskins are looking to exchange the 4th overall pick for Denver's 11th overall pick and Brandon Marshall. It would be a typical Washington move alongside the McNabb one, add more flash without addressing core problems of the team- like that offensive line.
My entire family thought that the Redskins trade today was just awful. What strange move... hhmmm.. Well, letting people know that my favorite NFL team is The New Orleans Saints. and my favorite player is Drew Brees. NBA - Favorite team: Utah Jazz. All time favorite player: John Stockton.
